I find it fascinating how Mozilla has managed to go from having an already shaky reputation to burning any remaining goodwill with all of their AI crap.

This should go without saying, but just because a FOSS license gives you a legal right to do something, doesn't mean it's actually ethical or right to do so.

I've just put out Binary 5.2, a small update mostly featuring new translations.
I haven't had as much time or energy to work on it as I'd love due to uni and life, but I'm hoping to work on it more after christmas.
In the mean time, you can get it now on flathub: https://flathub.org/apps/io.github.fizzyizzy05.binary

Ngl, I've found myself using red rather than purple as my accent colour.

I thought I'd write a quick blog post at midnight before a coach trip about recent hot takes, as well as the general sentiment around it.
GNOME isn't for you, and that's okay!

Honestly accent colours and XWayland fractional scaling were my major gripes with GNOME, and seeing them solved in GNOME 47 has made me really excited.

(this is sarcasm but really too many people have this mindset and it's honestly tiring)

My UI design principles are the only valid ones and any one else who doesn't follow them clearly hates their users!

experimenting with using light mode more on my laptop depending on the ambient lighting in the room and honestly I kinda find it easier to read compared to dark mode

Hot take: The "Linux community" has too many assholes and too many more people defending them

(also, re. the version number, I've ditched the "0." in release numbers going forward, because I felt it and my skills are a lot more mature now and it's not really needed.

Oh yeah, don't think I've mentioned this yet.
I've landed a new design in Binary (thanks to @gregorni) as part of getting it into GNOME Circle. It fixes many of the issues the old one had (e.g. numbers overflowing, shrinking the entry) and comes with the benefit of making it easier to make the input mutable.
Hopefully should land in Binary 4.0 soon :)

I wish Firefox had an option to switch between it's built in dark and light modes as opposed to using a userstyle or the system theme.

shockingly hot take: If someone shares something they find cool, your immediate response probably shouldn't be (insert favourite issue here) or that it doesn't matter.

Binary 0.3.1 is out! 🎉
Binary 0.3.1 implements a few small improvements ahead of a major release soon. Individual bits are now hidden in a drop-down, and handling of invalid digits is cleaner: they aren't removed and the entry turns red instead. There's also now translations for Russian and Italian.

(my only reason for using the package is because of silverblue/me using an immutable distro: some things won't use fonts properly (as in falls back to Deja Vu) if they aren't in my system folder, so for me it's easier this way)

Been trying Inter (albeit with a layered package rather than the GNOME UI .ttf) on my PC for a few hours, and so far it's been really nice. No issues so far.
Definitely gonna miss the aesthetic of Cantarell, but I don't think Inter is a bad replacement and is better maintained.

I feel like each way is a compromise. The first two are probably a bit too technical, whilst language native functions is also too vague (e.g. would it be clear it's a programming language?)
The third one is probably a bit too vague and boilerplate-like.
But I still think it's worth mentioning, but maybe not here?
