i will be presenting my research on punched holes (with weird topology) in large scale datasets in the Hack The Promise festival in Basel this Saturday 28th, please come by if you are around! https://hackthepromise.org/programm/

this research is about how “dirty data” is defined and removed from datasets that are too large be to be inspected through. In 1980s, non-white women’s body size data was categorized as dirty data. how about in the age of gpt? i looked into 17 public (or reproduced thus open) extraction-based, human-not-in-the-loop datasets and gathers their heuristic-based methods for filtering out dirty data. A heuristic is a method that, not guaranteed to be optimal, perfect, or rational, but is “good enough” solving the problem at hand. this research is a wanna-know-more about these silent, anonymous yet upheld estimations and not-guaranteed rationalities in current sociotechnical artifacts, and on for whom these estimations are good-enough, as it will soon be part our technological infrastructures.

i made/(over)designed a publication, for now i only handmade several copies, and took some pre-orders without pre-paying for half a year already, still haven’t printed it, can’t really afford mass-printing by myself (by mass i mean maybe 100 copies) if you know good publishing method, please also let me know! of course i will share the pdf version sooooon!
