Fraser Outflow winds continue today in the Lower Mainland and Whatcom County as cold, dense air inland rushes toward warmer, low pressure air along the coast.

This plot shows the pressure gradient between White Rock and Williams Lake.

A contact I have at a national laboratory in the U.S. told me that many foreign workers there are quitting and leaving the country.

The brain drain is happening in real-time, which I think is part of the point. Erode government knowledge, make departments more inefficient, force everyone to rely on the whims of billionaires.

I can't be too specific but many Pacific Northwest power producers are heavily reliant on Canadian natural gas with many individual generating plants sourcing exclusively from Canada via pipelines. #energy

Mostly cloudy today with snow showers. Not thinking we will add much to snow totals. Fraser Outflow winds are active. High around 2 near the water, cooler inland. Snow showers tomorrow and then clear and cold for the remainder of the week.

07:30 Sunday - Radar indicates the heavy snow band is favouring the Point Roberts to #Vancouver to Sunshine Coast line. I don’t know if this will continue to be the case all day but should be the target zone for at least a few hours.

One useful way to describe your location is to use the amateur radio QTH grid (also called Maidenhead, which is falling into disuse). It is a shorthand way to give an approximate location that (with elevation) is precise enough to be useful for #weather but doesn’t invade privacy.

07:10 Sunday - There be snow on the ground at my house (Surrey, CN89ob, 85 m ele). I’m not sure how much, I haven’t put my contacts in yet.

I’ll be sharing other snow reports throughout the day. It’s very helpful if they include an approx time, location, and elevation.

The 18z ECMWF paints a large corridor of snow in excess of 30 cm from Burnaby to Abbotsford for Sunday-Monday. It remains possible that some part of Metro #Vancouver will get this much snow but I think that corridor will be at most 10 km wide, not 60 km.
