Just listened to new Dem chair Ken Martin on Maddow and I'm not convinced he's the person for the job. He talked about how important it is to show Americans how bad the Republicans are. I'm pretty sure at this point the real job is to show Americans why Democrats are the right choice. Is there anyone who is a fan who can tell me why I should have confidence in him?

I want to tell you about the night sky and her sister day. Two beauties living not apart as we imagine them, but eternally conjoined at dawn and dusk. Day, the multitudinous consort of heavenly bodies. We humans succumb to her wiles, but both sisters know she is the lesser of the two, a pimple on night's shoulder. Great night - omnipotent space, a cosmos scented of time - just a whiff of her quiets us. We step out under stars and lower our voices. Day spins away and night envelops us with her hush, her chill, her dew, her vapor. Every meeting with night is akin to stepping into the presence of spirit. So often moon is there, speaking an ancient language understood by plants and animals alike, who listen and follow her instructions.

Bear with me, I want to tell you about the night sky and all her secrets. She was present 100 million years ago when that luminescent beetle lit up for self-protection or courtship. She was there watching with her millions of eyes when the redwoods emerged, when the first whales surfaced, and when seaweed evolved, floating over the cool currents. She looked on full of detached love perhaps or codependent love, or just coolly observed with scientific interest. It's possible she did not watch at all, distracted instead by something in another direction. I can imagine her engulfing earth in darkness, nestling this homey sphere in the fluffy cloud of the milky way. Maybe she simply slept as life crawled forth, sprouting, teeming, building, transforming. Maybe she missed the whole thing.

“Think of the federal government as a car. You might have thought that the election was like getting the car serviced. Instead, when you come into the shop, the mechanics, who somehow don’t look like mechanics, tell you that they have taken the parts of your car that work and sold them and kept the money. And that this was the most efficient thing to do. And that you should thank them.”

I stumbled on this yesterday and can't stop listening. You have to give it 90 seconds to develop or you'll entirely miss its essence.

very nice conspiracy theorist at the drugstore who let me go ahead of him in line just now informed me that it wasn’t Covid killing people in the hospital it was medical staff putting a smothering device in the oxygen masks

Past tense because that’s how he framed it
