having a bit of a disagreement with FreeBSD rc.d/rcorder today.

i installed some ports which have specific opinions on where in the boot they should start, and i disagree, because i want them to start later or earlier.

so i ended up committing some fixes to my local src/ports branches to make them work like how i want, but i feel like there should be an easier way for users to override this.

the state of open sourcing routing software is really sad.

FRR: terrible configuration syntax, doesn't support BGP link-local peers properly.

BIRD: works fine but no PIM-SM, no IS-IS.

i feel like we ended up in the bad routing timeline.

so i created this account to have a place to talk about tech stuff, but... it's just really weird having to separate my "tech stuff" brain from my other stuff brain, because they're really just the same thing.

fellow computer sufferers, please entertain me, i am on a Teams meeting about the specific format of a CSV file for exporting government accounting info

except it's been 30 minutes and they're still trying to generate the sample file

(on the upside: at least Teams works in qutebrowser on #freebsd? ... yeah, ok, this is probably not an upside.)

of course i can't cancel/port my existing O2 service yet because they won't send a PAC except via SMS and there's been a service outage here since yesterday... good timing.

(according to them, this is an Ofcom requirement, not O2's fault.)
