I haven’t drawn anything other than technical drawings for probably a couple of years now, but a week ago my friend and I spent $3 on a box of crayons and then spent the whole evening taking it in turns drawing and it’s been so re-invigorating.

It feels kind of like the time I’d fallen out of love with photography; digging out a basic 35mm point-and-shoot for a holiday and having to get creative with the limited capabilities completely reignited the joy for me. I think being faced with creative limitations tends to inspire fun through pushing the boundaries of constraints.

So naturally I broke the crayons back out today to have a go at animating a two-frame gif in crayon (blatantly based on another gif whose artist I can’t track down!).

Admins of community spaces: PLEASE do not try to ban politics from your spaces!

Queer identity is political. Bodily autonomy is political. LIFE is political.

Yes, politics is a hot topic right now. It will be for a little while. If you’re having problems with a space you moderate, cool off heated discussions - even hit people with a temporary ban if you have to. Heck, I don’t agree with it, but have a temporary ban on discussions about certain topics.

But unless your space is extremely subject-specific, there is no justification for outright banning politics.

I think political discussion should be open and proactive - but if you don’t, there are other things you can do. Require content warnings or tags. Require spoiler formatting on Telegram. Proactively moderate conversations and ask people to take it to DMs if it gets too much.

Just don’t BAN political discussion.

Rant over.
