Do you like DRM free audiobooks? What about buying audiobooks and supporting a small book store at the same time?

I've been using Libro.fm for a few years now. I buy audiobooks from a locally owned book store for the same price I was paying at audible. There is an app, and a web player, and you can download DRM free MP3s of your books.

If your local book store isn't participating, you can support some other small book store.

I just read summaries of all of the executive orders signed in the last few days. What a fucking nightmare, but not at all unexpected.

Complete obliteration of environmental protections, racial and sexual equality, and election law. Nationalism, isolationism, consolidation of power, and so much more.

Much of it is right on schedule for Project 2025, and we will start seeing Christian based laws slowly enacted.

We are solidly mimicking 1930s Germany, with our own religious twist

Every once in a while, it occurs to me that when I was seven years old it was perfectly acceptable, and even expected, to walk up to a stranger in public and ask "Wanna be friends?"

If I did that now, I'd get pepper sprayed.

So now that I've completed my grumpy old fart posting for the day, here's a @3goodthings post to try and even out the energy a bit:

• Got a massage on Sunday. It was glorious.

• I'm writing again, which hasn't been a thing for a few years. It's further evidence of my improving mental health. I lost interest in just about everything for a long time.

• I'm finally getting a home office again. While it will be a bit cramped, it'll be my space, which I really need.

It's looking like the only viable solution right now is to remove Pipewire, and go back to PulseAudio until all of the devs involved are able to get things up to speed. That's fine, I never had any problems with PulseAudio. It just feels like a step back, I guess.

I can't run OBS, and it's irritating me.

Anything earlier than version 30.1.1 is afflicted with the pipewire error.

The version in the repos is 29.0.

Can't upgrade passed 30.0.1 in flatpak because of the org.kde.Platform issue, which the dev has to fix.

Can't install from source because it wants ffmpeg > 6.1...

Feeling a little punchy.

It's infuriating watching the "homeless problem" debate happening in our local government. There isn't even an agreement on what the homeless problem is.

One side that sees the problem as the thing that is making people homeless, and the other side that sees the problem as the homeless people themselves.

As per usual, it's the "love thy neighbor and feed the poor" Christians spouting the most hateful rhetoric, and simply not wanting to have to see poor people.

4 - A large percentage of that small percentage will move back in a matter of weeks because "it's too hard".

5 - Meta will continue to rake in billions, and in the long run, this won't affect their bottom line at all.

They didn't bother hiding their bullshit this time, because they know it doesn't matter. The sheeple will keep right on drinking the cool-aid so they can continue to be distracted and entertained with minimal effort.

Everyone is acting as though the latest shenanigans from Meta are going to move people off of Meta platforms.

It won't, not in any significant numbers. We've seen this before, more than once.

1 - At first, there will be lots of outrage (I say "lots", most Meta users aren't even aware, and don't care).

2 - There will be lots of talk about moving to other platforms.

3 - Only a small percentage will actually make that move.

Lastly, as a reminder, no government which has banned books, has ever been looked at favorably by history.
