Now THIS is a way to show solidarity, by creating some huge sand art to fight back against the rising tide of transphobic hate.

Hopefully in the same way that the tides will wash away this art, the tides will turn against bigots and bigotry and wash that away in similar fashion. Hugely symbolic I think!

In a sea of bad news here is some good news, with the Thai authorities providing millions of Baht for transition related healthcare, specifically GAHT. The funding should be enough to provide for approximately 65% of the trans population who currently have to privately fund their HRT, which can result in health risks for those who are forced to use the black market.

With time running out for Windows 10 support, there may be a way out, of sorts, for those who will be unable to upgrade: Linux with WINE 10.

WINE is a translation layer that enables various OSes to run Windows binaries natively, including binaries that the native OS itself no longer can. Definitely worth looking into for those who have older applications that will simply not run on the next version of Windows!

On a side note, WINE is something I first used some twenty or more years ago, and helped me move from Windows to Linux, back in the days when Linux simply didn't have the vast selection of applications it does today, and the main application I used under WINE was Lotus SmartSuite! I wrote my CV and kept track of my job hunting upon Demob on SmartSuite running under WINE on Linux OpenSUSE!

Lucy Dacus is standing in solidarity with trans folks, will you?

"Queer singer-songwriter Lucy Dacus has pledged to donate $10k to people seeking gender-affirming care.

On Wednesday, January 22, the Boygenius member announced in an X post that she would give $10k in $500 increments to transgender people looking to fund gender-affirming surgeries through GoFundMe campaigns. Dacus asked her followers to share links to their campaigns in the post’s comments and also urged others to donate as well."

The proposed Mississippi contraception bill carries a fine of up to $10,000. (Rory Doyle / AFP) (Photo by RORY DOYLE/AFP via Getty Images)

A Mississippi Senator has filed a “Contraception Begins at Erection Act” in a bid to “bring men into the conversation” around reproductive rights.

After Trump took office this week, he stated that there are “only two sexes” and vowed to end “the government policy of trying to socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life”. A US government website on reproductive rights also went dark during the first moments of his second term.

In a bid to highlight men’s responsibility when it comes to family planning, Mississippi Sen. Bradford Blackmon, a Democrat, has now introduced a new bill. Bill SB2319 would appear to ban men and people who produce sperm from engaging in unprotected sexual acts if they have no “intent to fertilise an embryo”.

The bill would make it unlawful for “a person to discharge genetic material without the intent to fertilize an embryo”. However, it includes exceptions for sperm donation and using contraception to prevent pregnancy.

The bill, which was introduced on Monday (20 January), would charge a fine of $1,000 for a first offence, $5,000 for a second offence, and $10,000 for subsequent offences.

NBC News reports that the proposed bill is “unlikely” to pass the Legislature in the state, which is Republican-led but would go into effect in July this year if signed into law by Gov. Tate Reeves, who is part of the Republican party.

Blackmon told WLBT: “All across the country, especially here in Mississippi, the vast majority of bills relating to contraception and/or abortion focus on the woman’s role when men are fifty per cent of the equation.

“This bill highlights that fact and brings the man’s role into the conversation. People can get up in arms and call it absurd but I can’t say that bothers me.”

Since the overturn of Roe v. Wade, 14 US states have enacted a near-total ban on abortion, including Mississippi. A further four states, Florida, Georgia, Iowa and South Carolina, have banned abortion past six weeks of pregnancy, as per The Guardian. For context, one in three people discover they are pregnant past six weeks’ gestation, according to ANSIRH.

Danish politician Anders Vistisen had a scathing message for President Donald Trump. (Getty)

A Danish politician has issued a scorching two-word response to US president Donald Trump’s bid to buy Greenland.

Trump has had his eyes set on the autonomous Danish territory for some time and told journalists on Monday (20 January) that Denmark was unable to “keep” Greenland. The US has an air force base on the island.

“Greenland is a wonderful place, we need it for international security,” he said. “I’m sure Denmark will come along, it’s costing them a lot of money to maintain it, to keep it. You have Russian boats all over the place, you have China’s boats all over the place – warships – and [Denmark] can’t maintain it.”

Múte B Egede, Greenland’s prime minister, has already rejected the idea and now Anders Vistisen, a member of the European parliament, has also responded.

“Dear President Trump, listen very carefully: Greenland has been part of the Danish kingdom for 800 years,” he said during a session of the EU. “It is an integrated part of our country, it is not for sale.

“Let me put it in words you might understand: Mr Trump, f*** off.”

European parliament vice-president Nicolae Ștefănuță gave Vistisen a dressing down for his language, saying: “If the translation was correct, the term you used is not allowed in this house, and there will be consequences to the message you have used.

“It is not OK in this house of democracy, regardless of what we think of Mr Trump.”

In spite evidence to the contrary, calls for a review from across the UK trans community and multiple agencies around the world saying otherwise, the UK government has refused to bring about a review of the deeply flawed and discriminatory Cass review.

Let us be clear here, he global standards for health care for trans children, youth and young people as published by the WHO and WPATH include the prescribing of puberty blockers, which are safe, effective and routinely prescribed to cisgender children with precocious puberty. Prescribing for precious puberty is not going to stop either, which is why we can say that refusing to delay puberty in trans kids while continuing to delay puberty in cismkids by the use of the same puberty blocking medication is explicitly discriminatory.

Also it seems that the government is dissembling in its insistence that it has consulted amongst he trans community even while implicit admitting to having consulted transphobic groups, however, how such groups can be in any way considered interested parties (as in parties with an interest, which here would mean parties who are trans or parents or guardians to trans children and young people) is obscure.

"In response, the government wrote that it and NHS England “do not support an independent evaluation of the Review” and are “fully committed to implementing all recommendations from the independent and evidence-based Cass Review”.

So, citation please Health Ministry, as there is plenty of evidence refuting your claim.

Joanna Cherry has joined LGB Alliance’s board as a trustee. (Euan Cherry/Getty Images)

Former Scottish National Party (SNP) MP Joanna Cherry has joined LGB Alliance’s board of trustees.

Cherry, who previously called on the UK government to investigate “the impact of extreme trans rights activism on women’s rights”, was announced by the LGB Alliance as its trustee on Monday (6 January).

The charity, which has been at the centre of multiple controversies in recent years, wrote that Cherry’s appointment would offer “unique political experience to augment LGB Alliance’s public affairs capabilities”.

“Meanwhile, her long career as an advocate and QC (now, KC) will provide invaluable weight to the charity’s legal interventions in support of LGB rights,” the statement added.

Cherry said: “LGB Alliance is a beacon of sense and sanity at a very dark time for lesbians, and I’ve always been a passionate supporter of its work. There are still many battles to fight, including the invasion and erosion of lesbian spaces by heterosexual men, the continued medicalisation of LGB youth through cross-sex hormones, and the horror of elective double mastectomies for young adult lesbians.

“The tide, however, is turning, and I look forward to contributing to many more victories for lesbian, gay and bisexual people in the years to come.”

The former politician lost her seat in Edinburgh South West to Labour in the UK general election last year, following holding the seat since 2015.

During her political career, Cherry has long courted controversy for her gender-critical views, which were at odds with those of many of her former SNP colleagues.

The former SNP Shadow Home Secretary and Justice Secretary was a vocal critic of Scotland’s gender law reforms and broader pro-trans legislation, and has previously suggested that conversion therapy should remain legal in some cases.

LGB Alliance claims its purpose is to see “lesbians, gay men and bisexuals living free from discrimination or disadvantage based on their sexual orientation.”

But ever since its inception, the organisation has campaigned to erode trans rights and paint the trans community as dangerous to women and children.

The controversial anti-trans organisation gained charitable status in April 2021, despite being described as an “anti-trans hate group” by its opponents.

In July 2023, a tribunal dismissed a legal challenge led by trans youth charity Mermaids, and supported by several other LGBTQ+ non-profits, to remove the charity status of the organisation.

LGB Alliance has also received criticism not only for its anti-trans lobbying but also revelations that called into question its claims that it genuinely works for the rights of LGB people – for, example its connections with anti-abortion organisations in the US, as well as its claims that opposing same-sex marriage is “not homophobic”.

An update on the earlier story regarding withdrawing prescription services for GAHT:

In a statement to PinkNews, Jubilee Park Medical Partnership wrote that the decision was made because it believes that prescribing hormones is “more appropriately provided by a specialist” and is “beyond the clinical expertise and knowledge of the GPs to provide this service in the way that it should be provided.”

It added that prescriptions should be handled through one of the eight Gender Identity Clinics (GICs) in England, but admitted that those clinics “cannot keep pace with the growing demand for these services.”

It said that hormone prescriptions had not been funded “as a national or local enhanced service,” nor, it says, has it been “commissioned by our local commissioners.”

It finished by adding that it believes the work is “not part of the GP contract.”

Well this is actually bollocks, as GPS are Primary Healthcare and Consultants and the GICs are Secondary Healthcare, with the responsibility for prescribing being primarily that of the Primary Healthcare providers, in other words GP Practices.

In this the GICs send a VERY comprehensive document to the patients GP detailing exactly what to prescribe and how. It is so comprehensive that I brought a copy of it to Germany with me, and this has been used by my current Hausarzt (family doctor) to ensure that I get appropriate medication, and I have used it myself when demanding treatment. I can in fact use it to DIY should I wish.

So, if I can use it to double check that I am on a correct treatment profile, then a GP with much better insight into hormones and endocrine function, along with analysing blood tests, then why exactly are they refusing?

@sanditoksvig

“It feels like a full-circle moment because the Royal Albert Hall is where I did my first out performance and spoke about being a lesbian on stage,” says Sandi Toksvig about her upcoming Christmas show.

Sandi Claus is Coming to Town, featuring the BBC Concert Orchestra and the London Gay Men’s Chorus, will grace London’s Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday (18 December).

But the broadcaster, comedian and author has come a long way to reach this “full-circle moment”.

Sandi came out 30 years ago when she and then partner Peta Stewart had their third child. They have two daughters, Megan and Jesse, and son Theo, who are all now in their thirties.

Reflecting on coming out, Sandi tells PinkNews: “We were more and more aware that we didn’t want our children growing up in the shadow of a secret. I was fully prepared to give up my career and go and do something else because my children were far more important to me.

“Death threats came immediately, we had to go into hiding. It was genuinely the most terrifying time of my life,” Sandi recalls, adding that she vividly remembers carrying her “new baby son across the garden in the dark to a small back gate where a car was waiting to take us into hiding”.

Now married to psychotherapist Debbie, whom she met in 2000, Sandi remains close to Peta and jokes that their relationship is “tremendous in a very lesbian way”.

Theo and Debbie will be part of the Albert Hall performance, alongside West End star Carrie Hope Fletcher. Sandi says she is “really excited about” the production, which will feature “300 people celebrating queer Christmas on stage.”

She goes on to say: “Despite the fact that everybody said my career was over, here I still am. We’ve got no money, and we’re putting on this huge show but it’s my present to the LGBTQ+ community and all its allies.

“This is for everybody. We started out with 120 members of the BBC Concert Orchestra and 20 members of the Gay Men’s Chorus, but now we’ve had 147 members of the chorus sign up.

“If you enjoy a Netflix Christmas movie, you’ll be in line with the plot of what we’re doing. We are creating a giant family of all of us together, and I encourage the community to come together and hold each other.”

The show aims to ‘represent the gamut of love’

The production, she says, will “represent the gamut of love” and allow people to “be who you want to be and know that we love you”.

Sandi’s activism stems from her own struggles and was ignited by a sense of anger when, as a young woman, she read The Well of Loneliness, by Radclyffe Hall. The challenges she has faced have ultimately made her “a nicer person”.

When she came out, Sandi faced hostility in the newspapers, and today’s anti-trans rhetoric in the British media makes her feel “very stressed.” She reflects on how, 30 years ago, people feared “lesbians were going to destroy society as we know it”. Now, she sees the transgender community as the target of this same fear.

“I won’t stand by and let that happen. I will stand up each time and say no. Clearly, if you’re anti-trans, it’s because you don’t have any trans friends. If you did, you wouldn’t be able to look yourself in the [mirror] as you say these terrible things.”

She wants to see “more trans people in the public eye,” whether it be in politics or on television. Offering a comforting word to the transgender community, she says: “Please know I understand and I’m here. I don’t know for what, for a cuddle? I’m here to be the grandma lesbian who goes, ‘Let’s just keep going’.”

‘It’s hard to understand that kind of blind prejudice’

Sandi, who succeeded Stephen Fry as the host of QI in 2016, recalls another difficult time: during her final year at Cambridge University when her college discovered she was a lesbian and threatened to expel her. She was allowed to remain only because of her “excellent academic record”. She now jokes, “So, here’s a top tip for all gay people: if you’re going to be gay, be clever because otherwise you’re completely fu**ed.”

Despite loving her time at Cambridge, she says: “I didn’t know I didn’t belong. It was shocking and distressing.” She remembers that “many of the staff did not speak to me'”, and adds: “It’s hard to understand that kind of blind prejudice. There were no queer clubs of any kind, there was no queer support. I felt like the loneliest gay person on the planet.”

Now, Sandi looks forward to spending Christmas with her four grandchildren and her wife. Reflecting on 1979, she says she never imagined she would be where she is today, preparing to host a grand queer Christmas celebration at the Royal Albert Hall for everyone to enjoy.

Sandi Claus is Coming to Town is at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday (18 December), starting at 7.30pm.

"Puberty blockers to be banned indefinitely for under-18s across UK

2024-12-11 13:54

Puberty blockers for under-18s with gender dysphoria will be banned indefinitely across the UK except for use in clinical trials, the government has announced.

Wes Streeting, the health secretary, said that after receiving advice from medical experts, he would make existing emergency measures banning the sale and supply of puberty blockers indefinite.

The Department of Health and Social Care said the Commission on Human Medicines (CHM) had published independent expert advice that there was “currently an unacceptable safety risk in the continued prescription of puberty blockers to children”.

Streeting said the commission had recommended indefinite restrictions while work is done to ensure the safety of children and young people.

The NHS announced in March that children would no longer be prescribed puberty blockers at gender identity clinics, with the then Conservative government saying this would help ensure care was based on evidence and was in the “best interests of the child”.

In May, that government introduced a ban on puberty blockers through emergency legislation, preventing the prescription of the medication from European or private prescribers and restricting NHS provision to within clinical trials.

A challenge to that ruling, brought by campaigners who said they were concerned for the safety and welfare of young trans people in the UK, failed in July when the high court ruled that the ban was lawful.

Dr Hilary Cass, who wrote the Cass review into children’s gender care and published her final report in April, described puberty blockers as “powerful drugs with unproven benefits and significant risks”.

She said: “That is why I recommended that they should only be prescribed following a multi-disciplinary assessment and within a research protocol. I support the government’s decision to continue restrictions on the dispensing of puberty blockers for gender dysphoria outside the NHS where these essential safeguards are not being provided.”

Marks & Spencer ‘sorry’ for using gender-neutral language in bra advert: ‘We got it wrong’

Marks and Spencer is facing backlash for an ad about first time bras (Matt Cardy/Getty Images)

Marks & Spencer is facing backlash from gender-critical pundits over a new advertising campaign for bras.

The British high street giant, which is well-known for its food and sweet treats such as Percy Pig and Colin the Caterpillar, was thrust into the centre of a social media storm when a user shared pictures of a poster in the lingerie department, aimed at teenagers buying their first bra, in one of its stores.

The poster showed two smiling teenage girls and one bra, alongside details about the sizes available, and featured the words: “Smart. Strong. Supported. First bras for fearless young things.”

Gender-critical activists took issue with the phrase “young things”, claiming it dehumanised young women.

GB News presenter Bev Turner reposted the images, writing: “Your shop is a crucial part of British identity. You are important and you need to thrive. But this sign dehumanises all young women at the very moment when they must not feel embarrassed or ashamed of their femininity.

“We need to celebrate them becoming adult females, not erase them. It is not the job of our daughters to make confused boys in bras feel better about themselves. I’m truly shocked.”

Dear @marksandspencer

Your shop is a crucial part of British identity.

You are important and you need to thrive.

But this sign dehumanises all young women at the very moment when they must NOT feel embarrassed or ashamed of their femininity. We need to celebrate them becoming… pic.twitter.com/FjZ1DC7LfA

Marks & Spencer quickly responded, with a spokesperson saying: “We’re taking this poster down and we’re sorry we got it wrong this time.”

This is not the first time the retailer has faced a backlash over its advertising.

Last year’s festive campaign involved the use of the slogan Love Thismas (Not Thatmas) and focused on striking the balance between doing what we actually enjoy at Christmas, and what we feel obliged to do.

They were soon faced with cries of “go woke, go broke” and accused of “trying to cancel Christmas”.

"In a world centred on sex and romance, being asexual feels like the queerest thing of all. So why do so many of us feel so unwelcome in LGBTQ+ spaces?"

As a queer trans ace this rings very true with me, and it needs to change. Maybe one day we will get to see a strong and powerful ace enby Bond, instead of the rigidly white cishet male Bond?

And aces and aros will be fully accepted at Pride.
