I'm starting to wrap up Safecat for publishing its next version. The highlight there is Woolball server integration.
So far you could have created certificates for other people, but it required a cumbersome exchange of private keys and certificates.
Now? it is all automated with a name system (and a server, oh boy).
I also want to create an installation package (for Linux).
Here's the relevant branch. Don't run it yet! The server is still not activated.

Poseidon Hash is used in ZK (zero-knowledge) applications. It's designed to have (much) smaller circuits than traditional hashes making ZK proofs much faster.
It's quite new. The different implementations of it don't always align.
The problem that was found is not with the function itself, but rather with a specific implementation.
There's already a "Poseidon 2" function that is used in some places, like Noir.

Marius Van Der Wijden claims to have broken Iden3's implementation of the Poseidon Hash. It is quite well-known, and probably used, so it's quite interesting.
He claims the problem is with their bit padding.
Normally you add '1' and then zeroes (possibly none) to fill the block length. This ensures that there is always some padding.
They didn't add the '1', so some input doesn't get padded at all, which leads to a collision.

I published "Duopsism" during the holiday season, when no one was here. Here is it again.
Duopsism: A person is sitting in a dark room. There's nothing there besides a programmable black box.
What can the person deduct about himself? the world?
A whimsical thought experiment in the spirit of Descartes and Mary's Room.

Tel Aviv's cultural center, which includes the city library, art museum, opera, and theatre, is a sight for the sore eye in a collapsing country.
It's 13:00 pm, Tuesday. The place is packed with political and cultural activity, talk groups (about the situation) and what looks like an improvised demonstration.
If there's hope for the country's future, its kernel lies here.

I'm trying Orbit, the new AI extension by Mozilla. It Adds a floating widget to all your pages. You can use it to create a summary of the page or ask Orbit questions about it.
The design is great. It's not intrusive. It's privacy-preserving, I like the idea so I'm going to give it a chance.

The Mary's Room thought experiment discussed Mary, a woman living in a closed black&white room.
The room is full of books. Mary uses them to study everything possible about colors, without seeing colors even once for herself.
Would Mary study anything by going outside and seeing colors, given that she already knows everything possible about them?

Every EU Crypto exchange requires a "proof of residency". Why the hell is it a regulatory requirement?
In crypto, users' addresses put them in acute danger. It invites burglars to target people since it's equivalent to storing physical gold.
However! It's very easy to give a fake "proof of residency" to the exchange.
So what's the point?
If someone is dishonest => they can simply give a fake address and you achieved nothing
If someone is honest => you don't need it but put them in danger
