No one is talking about the likelihood that Trump will purge the judiciary.
I think he will.

The infuriating thing is when they recognize the problem, and its this breezy little anecdote and not "Oh shit, 90% of non-techies will never be able to use this. Total UX failure."

We need the thing that comes after ActivityPub and Bluesky, and not the same developers. This is a "left out a dot from a method call, but users can deal with it" level of evasion. Both groups failed miserably and exhibit signs of being well-trained morons.

I don't think this point should be understated. Fedi is impoverished, and I think all society injured, by the lopsided demographics here in addition to the overall unpopularity of "Mastodon".
Its easy for trolls to lob low-effort racist remarks here & have those posts hang around long enough to create lasting heartache & drama. BIPOC users are going to expect to have at least the kind of filtering of blatant racism they get on centralized sites. The key to achieving that is automation.

✏️ Core Issue #3
Anti-AI mindset resulting in slow moderation resulting in #BIPOC users being targeted by troll farms that are very interested in scaring them away from decentralized social media. Setup a SPAM Assassin-style service to quickly flag troll posts... nice advance-warning system for moderators to use? Oh, no, no. Generative LLM AI is bad therefore we'll cut our noses off by tossing pattern recognition systems into the same ignorant blanket category "AI".

To clarify that last point:
Mastodon made me choose between having a TL 70% filled with just a few people or not having those few people in my TL at all.

(Oh, hey... does that 👆 imply users who start getting popular also start annoying people and get Muted simply because their posts tend to show in TLs over and over? Mastodon UX does this dirty deed to people. It is dirty UX grime, even if its unintended.)
How about being able to follow interesting users who post long threads? Impossible here, because then my TL gets overwhelmed as Mastodon shows every single part of the author's thread, instead of putting just the first two parts in my TL.

✏️ Core Issue #2
Anti-viral developer mindset, leading to a total absence of any algorithmic help in having a nice timeline.
Mastodon & other fedi could have small, open source plugins allowing people to choose, say, a filter that automatically prevents popular posts from being re-boosted over and over in their TL – seeing once or twice is enough.

✏️ Core Issue #1
Imagine you clicked on 'user@example.com' to send that person a message and all your computer could do was bring you to 'example.com' login web page – where you don't have an account. This is the stinky fedi UX, because they were thinking "federated, like Email" but didn't bother to define a protocol prefix like Email has.

Anyone who replies with "Fedi is meant for a small number of elite Linux misfits; fedi should be repellent to most people" is going to get blocked.
(And in advance, fuck you for not caring about the state of the world.)

I cannot get over the incredibly stupid ways in which ActivityPub / fediverse is being mismanaged.
The UX sucks & bad. No web developer in their right mind is going to say "Hey, lets add Share With Mastodon buttons on our pages". I saw one site that did and it prompts users to enter the URL of their home instance before the share can go through.
If fedi is like Email, then why doesn't activitypub have a protocol prefix (like Email) to avoid this problem?!

Fedi seems to be in a terminal decline.

Alas, Fedi is not yet a replacement for #threads ...

:blobcatyes: Study... Our outrage over social media posts helps misinformation spread
(Liberals think that linking / RTing disinfo to complain about it is some kind of essential exercise in truth-telling. Actually, that is raising the culprit's exposure and search rankings and monetization $$$. Screenshot it and quote/paraphrase them instead plz. That goes for blogs and news articles, too!)
