[#]throwbackthursday to my birthday hike in 2022. I stopped and took a short nap beside a lake off the trail (as one does). When I woke up there was something large and wet in my arms. I slowly backed up, and there he was - I had been spooning a snapping turtle! I spent a while at that lake, hanging out with my new friend while he swam in circles near the shore. I’ve always wondered what on earth compelled him to curl up in my arms like that.

In 2024 I hiked more than ever, averaging a hike more than every two weeks! There were stretches I didn't hike as much due to injury/surgery, May and December.

This year I also upped my mileage and tried out longer hikes. I did several hikes between 10-15 miles and really enjoy that length. Anything under 5 miles now feels a bit too short to me, and I don't get the same endorphins/happiness from the short hikes (I use #hiking to help regulate #AuDHD symptoms).

I finally got around to updating my 2024 #hiking tracker. I enter info about my hikes into a Google Form, and it creates graphs and a spreadsheet of all of my hiking stats. I started this system recently and it's working well so far.

In 2024 I hiked 33 hikes total in 4 different states. Total mileage for the year was 170 miles, with an average of 5.1 miles per hike. I hiked nearly half of my hikes in SNP (lovelovelove my free parks pass!), and I did 2/3rds of my hikes by myself.

[#]throwbackthursday to three years ago, when I was a novice hiker and didn’t realize winter hikes require ice spikes…

Thankfully the only thing hurt that day was my pride. It was a lesson learned, and I’m much better prepared for hikes these days.

As someone with #Autism and #adhd one of my biggest pet peeves is when someone gets upset with me when I say “Pardon?” “What?” or “Excuse me?” when I couldn’t hear what they said.

Someone just got the biggest attitude with my partner (also #AuDHD ) for this and she almost had a meltdown over it.

Like. We’re not being belligerent. WE LITERALLY CANNOT HEAR YOU!!!

Babette’s new favorite cuddle spot is under the Christmas tree, cuddling with the garland. I put a heating pad under the tree skirt to make it extra cozy for her.

One of my favorite mushrooms for #FungiFriday, Apioperdon pyriforme, aka Stump Puffballs.

They grow in big clusters and release these awesome spores. I love finding these on hikes and spend way too long playing with them when I do.
