January 13th is The Freedom Defenders Day in Lithuania 🇱🇹

On the night of #Jan13 1991 unarmed civilians defended the Lithuanian Parliament and held strong against brutal aggression of Soviet Union. While national radio and TV broadcaster was captured and choked, occupiers did not manage to break will and determination of free people 💪

Fourteen people were killed and hundreds more were injured when Soviet troops stormed the TV Tower and the Radio and Television Committee building in Vilnius, in the early hours of January 13, 1991.

Lithuania declared restoration of independence on March 11th, 1990.

Linux does not play well with media - many say. And they are right, especially with Fedora and NVIDIA :blobcatfacepalm:

First, @fedora does not ship media codecs patented in US - you have to install them from RPM Fusion.

When that is done, another issue to tackle is proprietary :nvidia: drivers works only with X11 which you have to choose when starting desktop session.

Now you may enjoy VLC, which works surprisingly well even from :fedora: repository :blobcatcheer:

But if you want to play HDR10 videos, you may want to come back to mpv, which for whatever reason kept stuttering on my machine :blobCat_nom_wire:

By the way, mpv now encourages nvdec over vaapi for hardware decoding, since it seems NVIDIA somewhat abandoned VA API development (as mentioned in mpv's issue tracker). Still, switching to hwdec=nvdec did not seem to help with video stutter, even though such effect is usually indicating lack of hardware acceleration.

After some tinkering I figured it was this configuration item that caused it (not video, but audio!):

I used this parameter for years to pass-through raw audio via optical S/PDIF port to home audio system.

Surprisingly, removing ac3, fixed the problem - no more video stuttering, so I can either run mpv directly or use it from skin like SMPlayer :blobcataww:

I can only guess this may have to do with Fedora's move to Pipewire, which I have complaned about earlier :blobcatthinkowo:
