Trying to think of any conventional #software team practice—any coding toolset, any #agile ceremony, any #ux #design research technique, anything — that did not evolve in order to ameliorate the problems of full-tilt, infallibility-complex programming in which people think we can simply code what should exist and ship it. Are 99% of our work practices meant to save us from ourselves? @GeePawHill @jessitron @RonJeffries @anthrocypher @PavelASamsonov any ideas?

Today was a big milestone for me. Some guys think they’re not cool enough to wear florals or not cool enough to learn guitar; I have always thought I wasn’t (like, nearly) cool enough to reserve a study pod at the #Toronto Reference #library. I just want to tell everyone out there, believe in your dreams, because today I got a pod!

I’ve been reluctant to quit the Post myself, since I support the work of the good investigative journalists who are still there. But I’ve lost faith in the Post as an institution. This is an outrage and shouldn’t go without consequence for the paper.

Look, one thing about this is actually very simple.

You don’t get to take anger at atrocities committed by leaders or states out on random people you see as associated with that state.

And you don’t get to claim that peaceful protests against atrocities committed by leaders or states are threats to you as a random person someone might associate with those states.

I guess that’s 2 things, but it’s really 1 principle. #Israel #gaza #lebanon #antisemitism #islamophobia

Things that more people should understand as mutually entailed:

• rapacity
• suprematism
• belief in essential social hierarchies
• defensiveness about those hierarchies
• willingness to “stand athwart history yelling ‘Stop!’”
• conservatism

The line may be long or short among these, but it is unbroken. Any ideology based in fear that reality is more complex than you knew (rather than curiosity about the same thing) leads eventually to atrocity. #musk #trump #taylorswift
