Three small boxes of my books, emptied. Having to make decisions about where to put what, which is a good problem to have. I think my crafting books will go in the corner unit, leaving the big ones for my classic, History and fiction books.

I'm coming across #NeilGaiman books, and feeling unexpectedly angry about the situation. I won't be keeping them, regardless of how much I liked them. The one that irks me most is Marvel's 1602.

I'm bothered by the consistent wave of anti-US sentiment that keeps popping up.

I mean, I kinda get it. We're headed into a Really Bad Place. And I know we've been extremely privileged. It was time for a smackdown.

But condemning the entire country when a lot of us fought so hard to prevent Trump's rise just feels like you're slamming the door on us.

We already feel alone. All USians going to suffer, regardless of who we voted for, mostly the most vulnerable.

Please don't turn your backs on them.

Sorry. I just need to get that out. And yes, I feel similarly about USians who smirk and say that "they" deserve what's coming. We're ALL gonna get it.

I'm terrified.

I probably shouldn't have, but I got three more bookcases put together this evening, and some six boxes of books emptied.

I'll be paying for it tomorrow, but it's worth it. My library is coming together!

We're watching Awakenings, a film starring Robin Williams, John Heard and Robert de Niro. It's a fictionalized account of the true story of how L-Dopa was found to help patients with encephalitis - at least temporarily.

It's... heartbreaking.

For the last week, I've been dealing with what seems to be a pinched nerve in my middle back. Pain would sit just below my shoulder blade.

Tramadol + motrin would mostly take care of it. I tried to rest, correct my posture, and apply heat to try to manage it.

Then yesterday, I decided to put some bookshelves together - alone.

You see where this is going, yeah?

I'm in agony today. I didn't sleep well as I couldn't find a position that didn't hurt. The pain has moved toward the front, in my ribs.

I've roasted all that area with a heating pad, and just took the painkillers. We'll see how it goes.

My gut is inhabited by large, unhappy butterflies, bumping into the walls and each other.

I'm going to have to heavily filter EVERYTHING if I'm gonna get through this...IF there's a positive endpoint...

Nihilism is winning out. I don't know how we'll get through this. We've been let down so often the last few years that it truly feels like we're on our own.

Middle has rebound COVID, so tomorrow's lunch is off.

I did manage to put together the IKEA corner unit for the dining room. I have to move a bunch more stuff around before I can do more. With it being so cold next week, I don't know if Dad will be able to help me move furniture.

I should try to sleep. Listening to the wind rumble around the building, the roof creaking. My white cat is snuggled against my back.

I wish there was someone I could talk to about J's needs and get concrete answers... Like a social worker or something. I'm so lost.

I constantly feel like I'm forgetting something important.

I try not to post too much about my anxiety. I know everyone else is dealing with much the same and I hate to add to it. I know I'm lucky in many ways, and I try very hard not to take that for granted.

There's that Arctic wind, right on schedule.

I've been looking at stuff to insulate our living room, and found these (pardon Amazon link). Has anyone used them? Do they work? My cats tear up the flimsier shrink wrap, and I'd like to be able to open the door on warm days.

If you have money to spend at Joann, I STRONGLY suggest that you do so ASAP.

They've filed bankruptcy AGAIN, and there's only one buyer - the vultures who liquidated Big Lots.

Supply trucks are being cancelled. Gift cards are no longer being sold. Teacher and military discounts are no longer available.

TBH, employees saw the writing on the wall six years ago... It's still a bit of a shock...

I had previously used WeGottaEat, liking it for the ability to export the recipes in a format that I could use to create a printed cookbook. The interface was a bit clunky however, and I didn't use it as much as I'd hoped. Then they got sold, and I lost access to my account and my recipes. That's been several years ago now.

A mutual mentioned Cooked a little while back and I immediately signed up, then let the browser tab sit. I finally created my first recipe today. The interface is MUCH easier to use, and with a subscription, you can import from photos. That ability isn't perfect, but correcting the OCR was faster than entering the recipe from scratch.

Oldest came over this afternoon. It was good to see her and her hubby - they're good folks. She brought a Christmas gift: a hand-turned resin diamond painting stylus. It's gorgeous - purple glitter - and has a very nice weight to it. I'll need to get my stuff out and give it a test drive.

Middle feels "terrible", but has managed to get some paxlovid. Hopefully she and her hubby can rest.

Re J's med: I'll get it figured out, somehow. At worst, there's a payment plan offered by the insurance company to cover that cost. This isn't anything specific to any particular company; this is industry-wide. IIRC, it's federally mandated.
