I was hoping that this episode would resurface again. Shout out to News Beat and my man Manny Faces for an episode that will always be necessary to revisit at least once a year.

🚨 NEW EPISODE ALERT!🚨
This episode of Radio BSOTS features my 30-minute live stream test run for Netlabel Day Radio from July of last year. I also share some listener feedback, a song in celebration of 20 years of ccMixter, poetic brilliance from the late, great Nikki Giovanni (pulled from the Free Music Archive), and head-nodding cuts from Comfort Fit, CM a.k.a. Creative, Fields Ohio, Bluntspeakers, Apes On Tapes, and much more.

This album (just released last month) is my reminder to not sleep on Kahvi Collective in 2025. Where this full-length is concerned, the Boards Of Canada comparisons are legit. It is utterly ridiculous how good this album is. For the "downtempo" electronic heads on the timeline. Rephazer knocked it outta the park with this album.

Amidst the dizzying volume of files that one can sift through at the Free Music Archive, there's about 30 minutes or more of the late, great Nikki Giovanni reading from her work and thinking out loud at Clark College. (Shout out to KBOO Community Radio for sharing these recordings with the masses via the FMA at least 15 years ago.)
Eternal respect due to the memory and living legacy of an ascended master of the literary arts.

The news of Nikki Giovanni making her transition from this life hit me hard. Thankfully, her defiant spirit lives on in her audio recordings and captured public appearances. Her words and her voice are the oratorical armor that I need right now.
I included her poem "In The Spirit Of Martin" from the Free Music Archive on show no. 178 of my podcast last year and I'm sure to include another for the next episode in loving memory of her brilliant mind and incredible life.

🚨 NEW EPISODE ALERT!🚨
Spotify removing over 500 music episodes from their platform, including the podsafe ones? Hundreds of thousands of hip-hop mixtapes taken offline overnight? The Internet Archive experiencing a cyberattack? Some weird things have occurred in the worlds of music, podcasting, and archiving over the past month and Macedonia offers some thoughts along with a handful of #ccmusic selections. Come through and stay a while. 🎧 💻 🔊

Nineteen years in the game this month, Camp Lo-Fi brings back the occasional primal scream of the podcast feed known as BSOTS GONE (buck)WILD.
Expect songs about alien abduction, the G.O.P., a Presidential flashback involving Trump on social media, classy posturing on cheap pockets, a rat being saved from an act of performance art cruelty, and yes...pro Black crack dealers.
Ten songs, seven of them Creative Commons licensed. All of them from independent artists.

I will always cherish the memories and connections made during my time at Bondfire Radio. It was on the first Friday in February of 2015 that Radio BSOTS made its Bondfire debut live from the Brooklyn studio.
The final day of Bondfire's programming was on Saturday, December 30, 2023 and BSOTS was able to represent one last time for the station. The spirit of sonic solace lives on in my Camp Lo-Fi Transmissions on Mixcloud.
Bondfire forever. What a time...

Every week, Jumpsuit Records is adding a new song or two to their extensive catalog of #ccmusic and it's easy to focus on the now while forgetting the work of this imprint's past.
I featured a cut from Ultimate Fantastic's 2017 release on the latest BSOTS episode. "My Dreams" is a slick hybrid of hip-hop and house that hints at the gems hidden in Jumpsuit's back catalog. The whole album is definitely worth a listen.

Both Sides Of The Surface will participate for the first time with a live stream of hip-hop, soul, funk, and electronic music tomorrow evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. New York (Eastern) Time!
This will be my first music live stream since the final day of programming on Bondfire Radio just over six months ago. Yesterday's test run went well and I"m really excited to be a part of this worldwide connection in the name of free music for a free society. Let's be about it. 😀 🎧 💻 🔊 🎶

🚨 NEW EPISODE ALERT!🚨
BSOTS is back with another Seven To Consider!
In 2013, The Spring Up E.P. by Shad + Skratch Bastid was released under a Creative Commons license. That E.P.'s opening cut was co-produced by DJ Jazzy Jeff. (And this is why I insist on digging through the CC music crates).
Hip-hop, soul, drum and bass, and downtempo selections from the past decade on the latest episode of Radio BSOTS. Now available wherever you get your podcasts.
