I had my first cat euthanized 10 years ago, a month after my daughter was born. I had a hard time with the idea of getting another; Chairman Meow was pretty much irreplaceable.
When my daughter was 5, she wanted a cat. My wife helped her look for shelter cats, and they came up with this little meatball.
If I'd rushed to get another cat, we wouldn't have met her. Sugar is definitely the cat for her time and place. #CatsOfMastodon

When I stopped playing #hockey years ago, adult amateur hockey was called "men's league hockey." When I returned to playing a few years ago, it was called "beer league hockey."
With the influx of women into adult hockey, "men's league" didn't really cover it. In addition to the women, I also noticed more people who weren't white. And many 40+ players.
I think this is great - hockey should be for all. Men's league is dead, long live beer league! #beerleaguehockey #hockeymastodon

My main takeaway from playing hundreds of gigs in bands is that ... even if I don't like some sort of music, it means a lot to someone else and I'm glad it's there for them.
There were nights when my bands' brand of heavy metal frightened three-quarters of the audience, while on other nights we sounded like Wayne Newton next to the other acts.
But as time went on, I appreciated that diversity more and more. #music #heavymetal #guitar

When it's mealtime, my daughter takes her place at the table and then her cat joins her. She's not scrounging for food - she just likes to be near the little girl who picked her out at the shelter. She knows.

I had to take this silly creature in to have 8 teeth extracted yesterday. She has some genetic condition where some of her teeth get reabsorbed. She's back home and back to being her best self -- eating normally, running around, jumping on my lap, basking in sunshine. #CatsOfMastodon

I had my Hyundai Ioniq 5 lifted a few inches so it can handle off-road driving a bit better. Now it has the same clearance as a Subaru Crosstrek. Not really for rock crawling, but solid for rough unmaintained trails. My daughter and I went looking for cool rocks in the desert to test it out. Worked great! #electricvehicles #evs

A few days ago, I dropped my daughter off at school and returned to find this absolute unit of a bird hanging out on my lawn. I got within 10 feet and it just turned its head to look at me.
I called a raptor shelter because I suspected it might be injured. They said sometimes hawks hang out after eating. If it stayed more than an hour, they said I should update them and we'd go from there.
Fortunately, it flew off a few minutes later. Definitely the high point of my week!

Do you think animals have a sense of humor? My daughter's cat loves to steal my seat at the kitchen table, but only when my daughter is around. It always makes her laugh, and I think the #cat knows it.
