Just stop using Twitter. There's nothing there worth seeing that you can't get elsewhere, and the extra effort to get it elsewhere is worth it in more ways than one.
Twitter is spyware, addictive, and, for no other reason than the size and consistent activity of its userbase, a powerful tool for Elon Musk to advance far-right agendas. If you for some reason need to see something on Twitter, use Nitter (nitter.poast.org is my go-to).
We can make Mastodon an equal alternative to Twitter just by treating it that way ourselves. Talk to people irl about something you saw on Mastodon like you do now with Twitter. When you give examples of social media platforms, include Mastodon. When you take a screenshot of a Mastodon post, view it on the poster's instance so people will see their whole username and know that it's a Mastodon screenshot. Put your Mastodon username in your LinkedIn bio or wherever else you're already putting your other socials. The more people feel like they're missing out, the more they'll join, and the more active the platform will be. "This election is too close, we can't risk a Trump presidency for a protest vote!" That's exactly why we should vote for Stein (or West, if you feel so inclined). In fact, there's never been a better time.
People have been shouting for an end to the genocide in Gaza for over a year. There's always been outrage in relatively niche circles over things like the Cop Cities, climate inaction, and trans healthcare, but the Democrats could be forgiven for thinking that that would never cost them an election. Not so with Gaza. They can't pretend that ending genocide is an extreme demand, or that only a minority of people want them to. They know their support for Israel is costing them tons of support from leftists, youth, Muslims, and people of conscience in general. They're gambling that they can still get us to vote for them, or that they can win elections without us.
Either way, if we prove them right, where would it end? What happens when the only bar they have to clear is "threatening to send Israel one less bomb than Republicans"? What happens when they realize they can abandon us and only cater to increasingly extremist right-wing voters?
If you live in a red state, or better, a swing state, and vote third party only for the Republicans to win, you aren't responsible for the consequences, the Democrats are. A political party's job is to win your support. The whole point of elections is to say who did that best.

You may wonder, what's the point of safety features for kids and teens, who supposedly need them because they can't self-regulate, if they can just be turned off? Why give parents the power to get their kids addicted to Instagram? The answer is that most people who make a fuss about "protecting our kids" don't actually want kids to be safe. They want parents to be able to control their kids, which means giving them the option of which dangers to expose their kids to. The question for them isn't "is this bad for kids", it's "do the parents know this is happening?"
