RIP Gert Florijn (1960-2025), bridge builder between industry and academia in software engineering, and a friendly, wise, yet stern advisor to government and industry.

Together with Eelco Visser he was the initiator and industrial co-funder of the PhD project in which Eelco Dolstra developed the now widely used #Nix and @nixos_org -- a level of impact few of us have achieved.

In 2023 he joined #AcICT: It was a privilege to work with him.

In November 2012 I visited Magdeburg for a PhD defense at the Otto-von-Guericke-Universität. A city with a rich history, vibrant student life, and world class software engineering research. My thoughts are with everyone affected by today’s horrible events.

Felt compelled to create a bsky account to reserve 'my' avandeursen handle and avoid impersonations.

But I'm very comfortable here at Mastodon, which will remain my primary social network! While I'd like to see more people on Mastodon, I have plenty of meaningful interactions here. And social networking is too important to leave to (the ad-driven tech) industry.

RIP Maarten Looijen (1934-2024), hoogleraar aan de TU Delft van 1990 tot zijn emeritaat in 2001, en icoon van IT-Beheer. Hij maakte school via zijn invloedrijke boeken en vele (140, 12 per jaar!) afstudeerders, veelal via stages in het bedrijfsleven.
