Very slowly building a solar powered #meshtastic node to stick up on the roof. Planning to use it to run my mesh #bbs node. Waiting on one tiny part I forgot to order before I bust out the soldering iron but in the meantime I'm working on the enclosure.

Apparently people are using AI tools to process YouTube video subtitles in order to launder the content and make their own copy of the original content to make a few dollars in ad revenue. In this video, YouTuber f4mi fights back, finding interesting ways to poison the AI to prevent her content from being easily scraped. For example, using the .ass subtitle format. Hilarious and informative! Her genuine maniacal laugh at 11:19 is contagious.

@joshbressers just about caught up on the hacker history podcast after discovering it a couple months ago. I really enjoy the nostalgic hacker tales. I really appreciate how your guests are free to just tell their stories with minimal interruption. It's actually really cool to see how no one ever seems to run out of things to talk about. Once they get going it all just pours out.

It's Christmas Eve! Tonight John McLane will crawl out of the air duct and leave presents under the tree if I was good this year. If not, he might blow up my house. Better remember to put out the Twinkies and cigarettes before going to bed.

Went down a rabbit hole and made another #meshtastic BBS program. I designed it to be modular. The idea is you can configure most of the basic options via config file. If you want to add new functionality you can just write a "Context" module and load it up into a menu via the config. Code probably messy. Not extensively tested. Bugs guaranteed :D https://github.com/rickoooooo/MBBS

Twins! I fixed the first layer adhesion problem I was having on my prusa. Bed is not level. The right and front sides are lower so those parts of the print bed were not sticking well, if at all. Much better now! This is where I got the model:

Found an interesting project to let you make slide presentations in a markdown file and present them in the terminal. It's called Presenterm. Building a presentation this week and trying this out. It will be nice to have something with a different feel then PowerPoint. I like the idea of the entire presentation bring defined in a markdown file too.

Received my #meshtastic radios today! Had to get two so I'd have someone to talk to :) I still need to print a case for each and get batteries but I'm excited to play with them.

Found the patent. They apparently take a photo of the key at the kiosk and upload it to s server to determine the cutting code https://patents.google.com/patent/US20180154459A1/en?assignee=Hillman+Group+Inc&oq=Hillman+Group+Inc

They have a share feature too so you can share keys by entering in a contact's email or phone number.

Also it looks like the key cutting kiosk displays a PIN that you must enter in the app to have the key cut.

The second point is interesting to me because it sounds like they don't tie keys to individuals by their name or address or anything easily identifiable. Instead it would be tied to some device ID. Though maybe you'd still have an email address tied to the account and therefore the keys? I'm really curious how it works now...

Their security page makes three following claims:

  1. KeyHero uses military-grade encryption

  1. Your Key is linked to your phone and your KeyHero account. You will NEVER be asked to share your physical address, card number, or any other personal information

  1. a password is required EVERY time it’s opened. Plus, every physical key made is assigned a unique PIN code and you’ll be notified after every copy.

It made me wonder if there's just some S3 bucket out there full of key pinning values tied to individuals. I found their website https://www.mykeyhero.com and they say, "When you duplicate a key at one of our locations, you have the option to make a digital backup for free. Then, you’ll be able to access and manage your keys through our website." So I'm thinking, probably?

I was at Home Depot today and noticed they have a fancy new key copy machine. The screen said something about making a "free digital backup" and it's got me so curious.
