Quick look at #RIPEAtlas mesh pings on 26 Jan, shows some (not all!) #Finland-#Lithuania anchor pairs saw:

• A noticeable latency increase (5-20ms extra) around 00:45UTC, in line with the reported cable cut of the LVRTC-cable around that time.

• No noticeable changes in packet loss.

Looks like another one where the Internet managed to route around damage.

On a #FrecciaRossa (must be Italian for f*ing fast train) between Milano and Roma.

Can't help but measure its Internet, one thing I noticed is that COLT (AS8220) providers internet connectivity for onboard free wifi, and on all 3 devices I checked the external IP is the same. So maybe the whole train is on a single IPv4 address at 300km/h?

Kudos #BGPtools for having this on the front page, so it was a breeze to ask my 12yo to check this!

Totaal klaar met mutsen (m/v) die niet opletten in het #verkeer. Fietsend van #Haarlem naar #Amsterdam werd ik gisteren 2x bijna geschept.

1. #e-bakfiets met een muts die op dr iphone zat te kijken en plots links afsloeg

2. auto die afsloeg over een rechtdoorgaand fietspad (met haaietanden zelfs)

Kunnen we #verkeersboetes afhankelijk maken van het gewicht van je voertuig?

Dan wordt het ineens ook een stuk minder interessant om met zo'n 🤏 #RAMvan door nauwe straatjes in #Haarlem te scheuren

So barely a month ago the populist NL govt leader Geert #Wilders proposed to work together with #Assad and to declare parts of #Syria safe for return of refugees ( https://nos.nl/nieuwsuur/artikel/2543389-wilders-wil-banden-met-dictator-assad-aanhalen-om-syriers-terug-te-sturen ).

Seeing happy Syrians across the world now who want to return to Syria.

This is a clear example how batshit-crazy the anti-immigrant-populist tendency to support "strongmen" is. With the "strongman" gone, many refugees will want to go back, no need for separating families, border control increase, etc.

In the news: Cable cuts this morning between #Sweden and #Finland ( https://apnews.com/article/sweden-finland-damaged-cable-9b6092fd670383a4de28f05c33405768 ), so I looked into what #RIPEatlas sees. We do see a noticeable increase for a few paths between anchors in FI and SE at 3:15AM UTC (roughly 5% of paths), and some interesting changes in packet loss.

Does the timing of state changes in these graphs (3:15 for latency increase, and also 6:00, 11:00 for pkt loss, all UTC) coincide with timings of the cable cuts?
