I will be indulging in a pot of one of my favorite teas and listening to soft and soothing music while I try to exercise my creative muscles. I'm a strong believer that art can bring hope and positivity and confidence. So my livestream is sorta my happy place, ya know?

As an aside, as a Fediverse user it might be nice to use this opportunity to check out MakerTube. PeerTube recently made an upgrade to the User Interface, and it's really quite nice. Chocolate brown and warm sweet orange... mmmm!

I'm just now realizing that the boosts and favorite tallies I see at the bottom of posts don't actually reflect accurate numbers... That it all depends on the server you're on...

What. a. dolt.

I'd been scared to Favorite things because it would look like I didn't "care enough" about something to boost it, but I'm done with that now.

I'm gonna Favorite as much as I want. And I'm gonna keep Boosting as much as I do because I think that's how things work here. So there.

Every time I think about sharing my "status", I am reminded that I'm not alone, and that my state of being isn't any different than anyone else's right now.

I'm tired, demoralized, and yearning for the possibility that relocation dangles (but doesn't promise) in front of my heart.

I think I will go for a walk.

And then plunge into my art, which always helps distract and pleasure my soul.

Got some progress done on my next project during my livestream and for a couple hours afterwards. A stylized piece on Sleeping Beauty inspired by the Glasgow Four.

It has a long way to go, but I'm excited about what's there so far!

Haha! A dear friend (and former student and work colleague) sent me this video and I thought it was a charming encapsulation of what Humboldt County (where Eureka, CA is located and where I'll be moving in the next 6 months). She is apparently from the area, and I never knew!

It's a gorgeous video and he's a great musician! And apparently he's also a farmer and makes his own ciders! Mm!

So I'm separating my four panels from my latest work and enhancing them a bit. They'll be a Little Red polyptych of four.

This first one is called "Perfume". I cleaned some things up, added some more texture and lighting, and I think it's a good start!

Endeavors in Traditional Art Update:

I got my matte medium gel delivered yesterday, and today I tried combining it with some of the acrylic modeling paste I already had.

It makes a thick concoction that's akin to a really heavy cake frosting, which dries matte. I made some little sample cards that taught me a lot--namely that I can use a simple brown matte wash of acrylic paint over the whole thing and it'll bring out all the dimensional texture. SO many possibilities!!

I'm going to try putting some of it in a piping gun to help me extrude thin lines of the paste on my canvas with a lot more precision than a simple squeeze bottle can do. I'm hoping I can emulate some of the dimensionality I'm inspired by in the works of Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh.

I also ordered some small irregular "glass shards" intended for fire pits to embed in the lines. I already had some very small polished rocks, but they're not quite big enough for the scale I want.

I cannot wait to start playing!
