Summer kept reminding me that a walk would be good for both of us. She said the fresh moist air was a healthy alternative to staying in the house.
I said we should look at the pros and cons.
The pros included fewer people on the trail, duck season ended yesterday so it would be quiet, wet sand is easier to walk on, and the rain is coming straight down instead of sideways.
The cons included....
Well that settled it so we bundled up and saddled up for the short drive to the trail.
As usual, she was right.
The walk was good for both of us.

Summer is ready to play this morning. If we can get a break in the rain I should get her out on the trail. She wasn't to rambunctious after her vaccinations yesterday but is full speed ahead this morning.

We were lucky to have two dry weeks that coincided with my husband feeling better. I was able to get tons of yard work done, including all of the annual pruning.
Now it's raining again.
I told Summer outdoor adventures are on hold until the rain lightens up a little. She fetched me a hat, but I had to say no to the walk right now. Maybe later.
I asked her to get her orange ball, so I could throw it for her on the stairs. Clearly, she didn't want her friends to be left out, so she brought them along, for the fun.
Summer is a ray of sunshine for us on dark days. We are ever so thankful she is part of our family.
Good morning, Mastodon.

It is a gray rainy day.
A good day to stay inside and write letters to friends we don't see often.
My friends tell me that receiving a card or letter in the mail makes their day.
Lots of our friends have left here to be closer to their kids, or for more readily available health care. This is my way of staying in touch. My husband likes to talk on the phone and I prefer my pen. To each their own. As long as they know we are still here and that they are loved even from afar.

Summer suspected something was up this morning. She was unusually slow to get out of bed and wanted to hang out under her table.
Despite her wishful thinking we headed to the veterinary office after breakfast.
Today was weigh in and vaccinations day. She did pretty well except when she kept hanging one leg off the scale. I told her good idea, but it wouldn't work.
Now we are back home, and all is well. Before and after the vet photos.
Good morning, Mastodon.

When I visited my daughter's garden I commented that Byron never stays still for a photo op.
Now the grandkids are sending me tons of photos clearly proving me wrong.
Byron is a most handsome cat.

It turned out today required lots of baking therapy. These banana chocolate chip muffins will go along with the blueberry raspberry muffins to the grandkids.
I kept a few for us.
One of the grandkids, is stopping by after work, so I threw together a lasagna for their dinner tonight, too.

A few no dog pictures from Summer's walk today.
The sky was magical, for sure.

Time to bombard Mastodon with Summer adventures.
I'm happy she talked me into a drive to the beach. Summer was excited and the sky was magical.
So many photos but I couldn't help myself, again...

Blueberry raspberry muffins are out of the oven and I'm out of excuses. Guess Summer and I can fit in a short walk before lunch.
If anyone was wondering? The muffins are tasty.
The grandkids gently reminded me that they were completely out of muffins and scones.
Oh my.
These should help.

Summer finished her breakfast and is giving me her can we go for a walk look.
I tried to explain that I have to keep an eye on the blueberry raspberry muffins baking in the oven.
I thought she gave up, until I saw the pile of my shoes, socks and a hat waiting by the door.
We might have to work something out.
Good morning, Mastodon.

No sunset photo today. It would have been mostly gray.
The deck was a little nippy so Summer and I decided to curl up on the sofa with a blanket instead.
We are pretty cozy.
This photo was from our walk today. We decided it was a better offering to our Mastodon friends than a gray sunset.

I stopped to see my daughter's garden transformation. Even though the rest of us tried to keep things up while she was enduring breast cancer treatment, we fell short. Her garden is huge. It still bloomed and was beautiful, but overgrown.
This year, she finally feels well enough to put things in order. Three truckloads of greenwaste later it looks like the beginning of something amazing.
While I was there I spotted Byron, the trouble cat, hanging around the garden. No matter what he does, he is so gorgeous and funny, nobody can stay mad at him for long.
I'm excited for summer when the garden is in full bloom.

My daughter's cats are very resourceful.
Byron, on the left, has learned how to open the cupboard and knock over the food container.
It seems the other three cats had alibis so he is caught red-pawed.
Poor Byron is always getting blamed for everything. For good reason.

Summer finally got her walk.
She doesn't really walk but manages a constant run, stop, and circle back to help me along.
We walked all the way to the beach.
She really is a happy dog.

Summer is watching the quail invasion closely, but as long as they stay in their appointed area she won't bother them. Not even a bark.
That being the case, I was able to get a couple of pictures.
The quail come and go depending on the time of year, but now they are back in impressive numbers.
I think they stop by to see what the ducks are eating for breakfast. There is always enough for company.
Good morning, Mastodon.
