This old church is in Hachita, NM and has been abandoned. On the steps you can find nonperishable food items, shoes, and other necessities left for those that may be passing through. I'm not a churchgoing man, but it's the first time I've respected one in a long time.

Out of all the emptiness in all of the galaxies, I get to be here, on this living rock - if only for a little while.

I wake up in the late afternoon and birds sing to me. That doesn't happen on Saturn, or anywhere else in the observable universe.

What's not to be grateful for.

Some friends invited me out to their family Labor Day camping trip. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go because it sounded like a socialization nightmare, but I also appreciated the invitation, so I went.

Sometimes it's good to have friends, and sometimes it's good to say yes to them.

This is from Devil's Garden in Escalante Utah. I spent years out there, a lot of it in the silence under the stars.

When I got to New Mexico I wasn't sure about this place. This is a very remote area near the border of Mexico. There are some small farms and a lot of abandoned buildings. I was starting to feel like maybe I made a mistake coming here.
