It is really great to see Deutsch Bahn make extensive use of Braille text, to make trains more accessible.

Still, this one made me smile: Braille letters to explain that this is a “No-touch flush”. Found above the toilet of a new ICE train between Brussels and Frankfurt am Main.

“Ceci n‘est pas une pipe” came to mind.

Good example, of why most scientists warn of geoengineering. The results are often not predictable: White roofs reflecting more sunlight can have negative effects on surrounding regions.

It's sad that it needed another severe accident, but maybe now that Belgian cycling hero Remco #Evenepoel suffered several broken bones, people will realize that car drivers opening their doors without looking, is one of the greatest risks for cyclists.

We need safer biking routes - separated from cars and opening doors!

For years, I’ve been a great fan of Schwalbe’s Marathon Plus. First time I now try it’s green sibling: The Green Marathon, winner of this year’s Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis (German Sustainability Award).

I only find it unfortunate that Schwalbe hides the lower protection level on their product page: It is 5 compared with the Plus’ 7 (as per the product packaging).

Today, I want to help keep the memory alive of those who were detained and killed by the Nazi. For quite a few of them, Stolpersteine have been placed at places where they once lived. I know of three places in my neighborhood in Schaarbeek, Belgium, and went there to clean them.

On this day in 1938, the Nazi in Germany systematically attacked many Jewish homes, businesses, schools and hospitals. In Germany it is known today as the Reichspogromnacht.

My take: The decline of European car manufacturers will bitterly hurt industrial position, especially Germany‘s.

But it will open up discussion of alternatives to our car-centered transportation system. With much reduced political power of the local automotive industry - including labour unions - the #Verkehrswende (transition of the traffic sector) will accelerate tremendously.
