Little bit of clarity for me this morning.

People who are ranting about the use of #TiktokRefugee aren’t ranting because they think it’s a disrespect to actual refugees. They’re ranting because they are still mourning Twitter.

Anger is complex.

It’s today. Change for the worse is coming. I’m tense and scared. Seriously considering deleting my news apps, although I know that’s head in the sand.

Cold snap here. -1°C and about 1cm of snow. You’d think it was the end of the world. Cars crashing on the M5, A303, A37. (In fairness, gritters can’t solve this for us. Dropped Things 1 and 2 back after dinner and my ABS went off twice in the <1mi journey!)

Feel lucky to be able to hunker down on the sofa by the fire. Hoping people who wouldn’t normally be under roofs are safely tucked up somewhere.

The bit I hate about Christmas.

Spent the day with my father’s side of the family yesterday. Dad was there, looked old and frail. I was shocked at his appearance, actually.

Today, unto my mother’s house. Haven’t been there for 3 years. Kids are coming with, united front. As long as M20 isn’t a knob to me or his sister F17 (he was a knob in the car on the way home yesterday: it’s the stress of family time showing through), we’ll be ok.

Ride of the Valkyries or the Funeral March?!

Both teachers. My school had a half day, his does not. For now, I’m just sitting on the sofa enjoying the peace, eating yesterday’s leftovers. What would you do?

BBC putting retention “crisis” in scare quotes this morning.

Hi, I’m a science teacher and I’ve just taught 28 consecutive classes with no planning time because all my PPAs have been taken for cover (maths, mostly). I’m in fucking “crisis” if the profession isn’t.

I (unmedicated) just had a look at Bluesky. Just the bit that’s the equivalent of the federated feed.

Social anxiety triggered. No way. Much safer here.

If you go there, please mirror your content here so I can still see it? Thank you!

The horrors persist, so I am going to try to post good things.

A man came from the car-windscreen company-with-the-irritating-advertising-jingle, and completely invisibly fixed the 5mm chip in my windscreen glass in 20 minutes. I am so impressed. Also, he was very polite and professional.

This doesn’t minimise the awfulness of the world but it helps my mind to hold on to positives. Sending out love.

Heard on MSNBC

Interviewer: Why did you vote for Harris?

Lady voter: I felt she had a plan…

(Pause)

…rather than a concept of a plan

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Lady, I am not worthy!

2/2

Nice hotel, clean, had bees, lots of white ornamental plaster, felt like being in a wedding cake. Dismayed by the number of homeless people and Range Rovers in the same area. Put taxes up, Rachel Reeves, and help the homeless!

Went for a glorious walk this morning in the sunshine. Thought you might like to see this ancient shopfront I found in St. James. Something was being filmed in St. James’ Park but I did not stop to look for any famouses.

Hope you are having as fun a day as I did.

London trip report! 1/2

Lot of traffic on the drive up resulted in us accidentally arriving at our hotel (in Victoria) at the same time as the Tommy Robinson march. I was scared but the police reassured us, which was unexpectedly nice because acab.

We found a wine bar with self-service wine by the glass. I may jack in teaching to open one myself.

Tequila bar was ok. Enjoyed it but prob would not bother again. Brixton however is superb! Vibrant and friendly! 10/10 would recommend!

Thinking about the challenge of #teaching. I count every day until the weekend because even on Monday I’m knackered.

But I love my job SO much. Love the kids, even (especially?) those year 10 mothertruckers who are the most difficult class in the school.

Too much contact time, not enough planning and prep, so I do a worse job, the kids know it, and they play up.

Education minister, unions: To make outcomes better for kids, we need a bigger staff budget to include more planning time.

Awwwh, flipping Nora! My anxiety today is off the scale!!

We went to Frome Independent. A few tall women shoulder-barged me because weren’t looking around while they were walking around. I hate being barged because I am small!

I solved it by putting a ream of A4 paper in my shoulder bag.

Silence or quiet sounds are heaven. My laptop fan, the fire ticking and crackling.

This evening, I want to listen to my husband‘s radio show. I think I will just turn every song down for 2 minutes.
