Gwynne Dyer: “Trump Can’t Hurt Climate Much”
" “Drill, baby, drill”, exulted the new President of the World (American branch), but he will find that the oil and gas industry isn’t listening. As Darren Woods, CEO of ExxonMobil, tactfully put it in November: “I’m not sure how ‘drill, baby, drill’ translates into policy.” "

Note that you will need to take the mask off for a short time when talking to customs officers, when showing your NEXUS card to the TSA person in the TSA Pre security line, and (in Canada) when showing ID to the gate agent when boarding the flight.

I’ve traveled a lot by air recently. I wore an N95 mask (3M Aura) on all flights and in airports. A couple of things: (1) N95 masks work really well! Even with the current high levels of COVID I remained healthy, despite twice sitting beside individuals who clearly had "summer colds”. (2) Nobody was weird about the mask, it was a non-issue. If you want to travel and not get sick then mask up. About 5% of travellers are masking, so you'll have company.

Gwynne Dyer: “No sirens are blaring, nobody even looks frightened, but they should be. Last week the world moved into uncharted territory. The ‘aspirational’ goal of never allowing the average global temperature to rise more than 1.5 degrees Celsius higher than the pre-industrial norm (+1.5°C) has been breached for a whole year – and probably for ever.”

A cheery update on our heating climate from Gwynne Dyer:
“By August, if we’re still looking at record-breaking temperatures, then we really have moved into uncharted territory,” said climate scientist Gavin Schmidt in April. Well, 22 July was the hottest average global temperature ever recorded – and 23 July promptly broke that brand new record. Here we are in August, and it is not looking promising.
