AARGH!! Sat down to grade tests.
Discovered that past me was a total cow and simply wrote the question reference on the saved "memo" and NOT the actual markscheme. There goes my evening.

I am a mathematics teacher currently teaching the IGCSE (Cambridge) and (IBDP) International Baccalaureate Diploma Program curricula.
I came to teaching late, after my second child was born, and my first training was as a #Montessori directress. I have taught from kindergarten to university level, and I think I'm now settled with the 11-18 age range.
I work longer hours for less pay as a teacher than I did as a senior software developer. If you think teaching is easy, you're probably not doing a very good job. (Like parenting!)
I try to keep this account to mathematics, experimental sciences, and education. (I don't always succeed - pretty nature pictures WILL be boosted).
Teaching is a political activity.

I finally found a technique to ensure that borrowed stationery comes back. Each kid leaves a shoe with me as security!

I love teaching mathematics, hate the many and varied dysfunctions of traditional school.
I want a job that lets me teach about 50%, and do research and design the other 50%.
I don't know what research I would like to do - but something about educating mathematics teachers, especially in primary and middle school, would be fun. I want to figure out when and how kids lose the plot with fractions and algebra, and how to support and remediate this.
I think my dream job would probably include some kind of mathematics education advisor, eventually, when I had a better handle on effective and doable interventions.

Sometimes I love my job so much. I gave my senior class a "Mathography - your Maths Autobiography" assignment, and their answers are so honest and sincere. It's really awesome. Sometimes I feel that maths misses the opportunities that other teachers (like English or Social Science) get to really know our students.
The instructions I gave them were:
Create a mathography to describe your experiences with Mathematics so far - you should include:
Personal Introduction
My experience with Mathematics so far
include - Memories
How I think I will use mathematics after school - think about the career you want to have.
What I wish my teacher knew about me.
