It's #Caturday somewhere...

Good evening #FediCats and #CatsOfMastodon!

This Is Spike. He's one of the oldest kitties here (I'm unclear whether he or Kitsune is the older cat).

I've been living with Spike for almost five years. He is slow to trust, though within the last month or so, he comes and solicits scritches from me.

No alt-text, cuz I'ma tell you. From the pic, you'd think he's gray-brown tabby on top, with a white undercarriage. That's almost correct. He has a large white spot on his back.

The mustardish-colored thing he's curled up on has a secret space-blankety layer, so it's a cat-powered heating pad. I got it for Star, because we've had a devil of a time clearing up her ears, and, I think it hurt her to eat kibble and crunchy treats.

Anyway, the pad is on the back of our recliner loveseat, and that's right behind my dining chair. There's the top of a box in the left background that has donations (Spike and I live with a hoarder... we're working on it).

I believe Spike is named after a rose goblin. He is super sweet, and doesn't /mean/ to keep his claws out, though out they tend to be.

One of my offspring confidently told me that #Meta now owned #TikTok, and that TikTok made everyone follow #Facebook and you couldn't unfollow.

First, I opened #GroundNews and searched for TikTok. Lots of articles about #PerplexityAI and zilch about Meta.

Offspring said, "That's mainstream media." So, I expanded and said, "See, some of these are local TV stations."

They were not convinced.

So, I opened TikTok on my #iPhone.

I do /not/ log in using FB (nor have I shared my contacts). Not following anybody.

Offspring couldn't find the #rednote video they were citing as a source, and when they opened TikTok and searched who they were following, Meta and Facebook were not found.

I do not know if any learning occurred, though I tried.

Also, I don't actually /use/ TikTok. I grabbed it from the app store because the brohemians wanted it banned.

I came across advice on what steps take if you are scammed, or if someone otherwise compromises one of your payment methods.

One of the steps is to use multifactor authentication.

Like anything else, there are better and worse options

When she was a kitten, she liked to climb into the dishwasher when I was putting dishes away.

While she doesn't like to be picked up, she will buff my ankles when I am sitting at the table. She also likes lying near my ankles when I am on the recliner.

She is Star's sister. Their mother littered them on my QP's daughter's porch in one of the boxes for cats to shelter from the cold. This was late January, 2020. The momcat was TNR after the kittens were weaned.

Originally, there were four kittens, and when they were beginning to wean, I was giving them a bowl of gooshy with KMR mixed in every four hours. One morning, one kitten didn't come out. He was cold, and listless. I tried to warm him, and give him warm KMR from a bottle, but he didn't make it.

For a long time, the three remaining kittens were unnamed. Because, when you give someone a name, you become obligated to them. We referred to them as "the interns."

After several months, when we weren't able to find anyone to adopt them, they were named. In the second pic, clockwise from the top, are Weasel, Star, and Squirrel.
