I have long used the #HackersCoffee playlist on #spotify as a focusing tool for studies and work. But now that I've said goodbye to spotify I need to find an alternative. https://bonkwave.org looks like a very promising candidate. In my opinion it sounds like film music from the 90s. Reminds me of the music in Ghost in the Shell or maybe the film Hackers.

Is there any authour out there who's writing in a similar spirit as Ian M. Banks? I'll probably have to reread his Culture series but it would be nice if there were other authours who didn't write sci-fi about a corporate dystopian future. I want inspiring not depressing sci-fi.

I really like the ship names in the Culture.

Welcome to the #EU where desperation labels #activism as #terrorism, and #democracy... well it's just a word isn't it. Unless the demo fights for it.

Good talk.

[#]fosdem any hotel recommendations somewhat close or easily transportable to ULB?

I know I'm a bit late but I've been from and to regarding if I should even go next year. Got completely drained last year by everything just beeing new so I had no energy left for socialising, which really is the main reason to go.

Any sugestion on learning to make gui, as in code them, while not using JS or web tools?

Like a simple "this is how you push pixels to the framebuffer in a couple of lines of code" and "this is how you catch mouse/keyboard events" guide.

I want to learn how to do it low level. But it would be easier to get going with a good guide on where to even start.

I'm currently reading a book that got recommended in a thread here on mastodon. It's name is Propaganda - The Formation Of Men's Attitudes and is written by Jacques Ellul.

It unfortunatly has really bad quality printing where some characters haven't even been printed at all while other characters have all of the missing ink.

But while the bad printing quality anoys me to no end the contents of the text is very interesting and not for a tired mind.

Is there a #privacy friendly but still competent #robotvacuum out there? Or a model that can be flashed with #FOSS software for offline use? Or even just a #robot that you can turn off wifi/bluetooth/whatever on and does a good job by just pressing the start button?

I ran my old one in "offline mode" by connecting it to a wifi without an internet connection but it's ability to clean slowly degraded until I just janked out the batteries and put it in storage.

This might be wrong. But in my mind a social network is what Mastodon and its fedi relatives are, possibly Bluesky still, I wouldn't know. While the Facebook family and Twitter are social media.

The definition I use is that a social networks focus is on providing a place for people to interact with each other while social medias focus is to monetise said interaction. From a users perspective they can look very alike.

A recognizable name and voice poped up in the latest episode, number 126, of the podcast 1984today. Very good discussion with lots of interesting books I've never heard of. So, as I couldn't find any show notes here is my atempt at a booklist for the episode:

(Most likely incomplete)

Figured out that you can clean your inky fingers from filling #fountainpens by using a foot file or fine sandpaper while washing your hands. Not that far fetched since oil removal handwash has abrasives in it. But still took me a while. Very happy with not having inky fingers any more though.

One question, how often are the #openbsd man pages updated?

Another question, are they available in physical book form?
