Side note re: 4-parter (Strips 6-9)
I often get robin and woodpecker mixed up since I believe it's the latter that is mentioned in the Nanaboozhoo/Cornbread mythos I grew up learning.
Just wanted to clear that up, is all.

That's a wrap!
In case I forget, each panel image I shared has AltText so I suggest reading those too.
If I ever return to making new strips in the future, I will let you all know.
Miigwech (thank you) for reading.

22: Last unpublished webstrip, as of this writing.
This was a conversation I had with my mother when we were talking about sage and smudging.
Being my silly self, I made a quip on the matter and she laughed at it.
She never had a sense of humor then, until I came into the picture. Good memories.

21: Back to Nanaboozhoo shenanigans.
They're a trickster after all and they'll blame others for their mischief.
Parody of them if they were a snot-nosed student at their tribal school.

20: I study my anishinaabemowin A LOT, going as far as learning the stems and why they are used, etc.
Webstrip is a mix of that and probably what I thought my cousin Angeline (Firekeeper's Daughter) went through during the drafting process of her books.

19: This was inspired by a Humanities lecture during my days at university.
The instructor, long since passed, was someone I admired a lot and while his statement was hard at first to hear, it motivated me further to appreciate my culture more.
And yes, that is discounted Kratos (God of War).

18: An ode to the manga and anime Ghost in the Shell (or Jiibay Biinzo Miigis, rough translation).
This is me being silly again and wanted to parody the anime in indigenous form.
I had to add a caption for readers for clarification of said reference.

17: Unpublished.
I used to be a class clown during ojibwe language courses back in my adolesent years before I knew better.
Basically, I'm making fun of myself here.

16: Unpublished.
This was inspired by a conversation I had with a Cree man (ala my pre-transition days) at either Anishinaabe Future Leaders or some other cultural event then.
This is my spin on said conversation.

15: A short thank you statement to everyone reading Natively Awkward at the time.
I had a low follower rate back then but I believe that's about to change soon. Hopefully, lol.
Anyway, unto the unpublished works...

14: The last of the Natively Awkward strips before sharing unpublished works afterward, which I will be commenting on as well.
Inspired by the Nanaboozhoo and the Geese story, this pseudo-wordless strip also parodies Citizen Kane with the "rosebuds" quote.

13: This was probably made during the Urban Outfitters situation at the time which is still a growing problem amongst indigenous crafters like me.
I'm so grateful we have official storefronts now to combat cultural appropriation re: merchandise.

12: Probably my personal favorite of the webstrips I made bc it means so much to me.
My indigenous peoples still have one of the lowest rates of attending and graduating in college, and seeing I am a college graduate myself, I wrote this as hope for my people to not give up on academics.

11: Uh oh, recusant dark spirit 'Settler' has invaded your world!
A parody of the first encounter between my people and colonizers.
The comic the indigenous man is holding and sharing to him is the title cover of 'Pseudo-Traditional', a comic I made which happened to be my college senior project.

10: Back to the pow-wow we go!
I used to listen to a lot of trance electronica back then and I figured "what IF pow-wows were party raves for once."
Now we got Halluci Nation and other indigenous EDM artists to fill that void, hehe.

9: Part 4 (last of the 4-part strips)
Much like Strip 8, I never really explained how Misky reverted back from being a robin. Instead, I performed a pseudo-deus ex machina where I, the author, gave the blessing to change her back.
I had so much fun working on this 4-parter.

8: Part 3
Now the plot thickens, and I'm not talking about the cornbread being close to done cooking in the oven either, hehe.
I never really explained how Nanabu transformed Misky into a robin in the panels as I leave that to the imagination of the reader.
Comics are an awesome medium.

7: Part 2
Being a massive Star Trek fan, especially Deep Space Nine, I made Nanabu's elder transformation to be an ode to Odo, a changeling from that spin-off TV series.
It's a really good show btw and my personal favorite of the Star Treks.

6: One of my favorites to work on and it's a 4-parter.
Inspired by the Nanaboozhoo Robin story, Nanabu gets jealous of Misky making cornbread and gets irrational over her not sharing it.
Nanabu is such a hothead & I wanted to develop his character further. Hope his scheme suceeds!

5: I always found "indian tacos" to be a weird name for us to describe said food type, due to Columbus and all. Then again, so is chalupa from Taco Bell.
Anyway, I wanted to play around with the commentary here, whether or not it succeeded.
I am curious what curry in frybread is like, tho.
