A month ago, I mentioned going on a non-traditional #sabbatical. Now a week into the main part, I feel I can share I will be spending 8 weeks at Krishna Matha in #Udupi, #Karnataka #India. Specifically, I will be doing things for and at the Paryaya Puthige Matha under the guidance of the Paryaya Swamiji.

Yes, "non-traditional" like I said.

I feel fortunate to be in such an amazing place, among some of the most learned scholars on the planet, but I'm also worried I will fail the people here. However, I'll give it an honest try, even if I might end up making a fool of myself and never be welcomed back in one of my favorite towns. 😬

As I feared, the first stop ☝️ did not leave enough time for a proper viewing of Vitthala (the resident deity) in #Pandharpur. But the experience at the temple store was fantastic thanks to the clerks and the selection of dhotis and sarees on offer.

Bottom line, I need to return but also find someone local who can ease the logistics.

Driving to Pandharapur #Maharashtra to scratch a 30yr+ itch. But first a stop at Nira Narasinghapur.

Eager for #Pandharapur visit but anxious the first stop might play spoilsport, and Pandharapur itself might be a letdown. 🤞

Some locals say the temple is from Hoysala times (11-14 CE); others say it's from Kadamba times (4-6 CE) but I'm not sure about either.

The pictures progressively go from outside the temple toward the altar. The phallic shape rock is a "linga" representing shiva.

Thursday: 11.26km neighborhood walk in beautiful #malenadu region #Karnataka #India. ~A third of the walk was on roads thro' an evergreen forest. Visited a temple (apparently many centuries old) and a primary school while on the walk.
