Complicated BBC News channel issue (apart from the different red colours) - that odd symbol in the middle of the QR code is the symbol for BBC News in the UK, but not globally, where those silly icons were rightly ignored by BBC Studios. So for viewers worldwide, that's not an icon they've ever seen.

This is what it's all about! The washing is on, the car is charging, air conditioning on. The current price of electricity would be (AUD) $0.07 per kWh right now, but when the sun shines, we're generating more than we need currently, so not only are we getting all this electricity for "free", we're sending some back to the grid, too.

Doing my accounts. This is almost always accompanied by shouting at Xero's awful, awful UX. Today is no exception.

@genebean I’ve just spent $48 (US $30 or so) for a tiny little touch monitor for a Raspberry Pi I have hanging around. That arrives at some point tomorrow. Should be fun to find a frame and put this display somewhere a bit more visible in some way. (Hmm, assuming that old Raspberry Pi has wifi. Not sure it does.)

I wish I could integrate my Google Nest cameras into it, but something, somewhere, won’t let me do that. I don’t know why.

That @genebean is to blame for this. But this is all quite fun. Just integrated the car into my home automation system.

Spotted while out walking today - and, yes, added to #openstreetmap - this plaque. Local television clearly doing great things in 1984! (Curious at the spelling of the word "programme", which I thought was spelt the US way here in Australia).

Had to buy an oven today. Went to The Good Guys, solely because my wife remembered the advertising jingle they had probably twenty years ago. #radio #advertising #works

Genuinely reconsidering trips to the US. I know air traffic controllers are understaffed everywhere, but this seems almost foolhardy to fly into US airspace.

Bought a new electric car. Had it two days. Just realised it doesn’t have an AM radio. (But it has DAB which carries the same stations, within the capital city area at least).

New overnights presenter of 2GB and 4BC is "Ugly" Phil O'Neil - who's done massive shows on Triple M Sydney, across Australia, Kiss 100 in London, Kerrang in Birmingham, and WSFM's morning show for the last three years.

Quoted as saying, of his move to a graveyard shift that few people listen to and that isn't rated so doesn't really matter to the station... "This really is the most exciting and pivotal moment of my career."

Mmm.

My latest radio trends newsletter is out - looking at the Triple J #Hottest100 and Apple's new radio stations. And, oddly, London Live.

Programmed the Google speaker. 7.00am to 7.10am will be the news with Maria Hatzakis, then it should flick over (I’ve actually set it to 7.11am for streaming delays) to ABC News Radio, for a modern outlook at the world.

Reminds me that the big talkback subject on the first day that they were back was “why doesn’t anyone wave thanks any more in the car”. It’s like a portal into another dimension, and I’ve had enough.

I think my plan tomorrow is to set it to ABC Radio Brisbane between 7am and 7.05am, then get it to automatically switch to ABC News Radio.

Nice to hear that ABC Radio Brisbane reverted to type this morning, with programming for the 75 year-olds who just want things to be like the 1950s again. We had “call with your memories of little cartons of milk at school”. Some old dear gave a hilarious story about vomit. The reason why the station’s audience is dying is that they are literally dying. At 53, I’m too young to listen, and made to feel unwelcome. (Not so long ago they had a phone-in about how good cash is and how bad electronic payment is. A classic not so long back was “call with your memories of the 1974 floods”. At this point, I’d rather hear my favourite biscuit.)

I have the (local) choice of talk about sportsball from Triple M, awful right-wing talking points from Peter Dutton’s 4BC, or music radio. Alternatively, I have Radio National (if I can work out how to get the Queensland version on my speaker), or News Radio (but no state news there). Grr.
