Back to "how this is working out for me": I think it isn’t. I don't think I've got the conviction to fuck around for fear of finding out.

If anyone cares to share how they handle frustration with obstinate drivers in cycle lanes (be that: ring your bell; do nothing; etc.) I'm curious to hear what ye do; particularly if it offers a safer outlet for righteous rage caused by being made bail out onto the road.

I've been told I should know better than to escalate. I've been told to not let it get to me.

On some level, I get it, but I can't shake the feeling that there's surely the real escalation is threatening to run over someone for slapping at their car. Surely it is them who started it by making me unsafe before I ever touched their car.

I can't help but think that there's few things one could do to a car with their bare hands that would truly warrant threats to kill them.

They beeped at me, holding their horn for more than 10 seconds, before following me for 1 km, and maybe would have followed me further if I hadn't passed a modal filter they couldn't pass through.

The WHOLE time they followed me they had their window down and they were shouting out of it with threats of how they'd hit me with their car for daring to touch theirs.

Last night a taxi driver was parked in and blocking the bike lane I was on, forcing me out into traffic.

It was dark, very wet, and there was a lot of traffic on the road. Suddenly merging with traffic felt unsafe.

Out of frustration for them putting me in danger, I slapped at their wing mirror — not even hard enough to move it.

The taxi driver felt an appropriate response was to follow me and threaten to hit me with their car.

Recently, in retaliation for the danger cars parked in bike lanes put me in, I've started slapping at those parked cars' wing mirrors. Mostly with the intention of causing them some modicum of inconvenience (having to wind down their window to put it back) for the inconvenience (at best)/ danger (at worst) they have put me in.

Again, parked cars. They're in no danger. They're not even using the mirrors because they're stationary.

A thread on how this is working out for me 🧵

9 days in I finally feel like this moustache may just about be taking form.

Any donations, big or small, would be greatly appreciated 🧡

I’m trying to raise some money for charity with friends, in memory of a friend who passed away a couple of years ago. Doing the ol’ grow a moustache for November bit for the cause (most clean shaven I’ve been in ~10 years).

If anyone had even a few bob to chip in, I’d really appreciate your help in honouring my friend 🧡

@IBIKEDublin hey, I heard mention of a sunset cycle in Phoenix Park sometime in May, but I can’t remember the date or time. Would you please share the details with me if you have them? Thanks!

I only recently came across Tranist via @straphanger’s blog post (https://www.straphanger.blog/theres-an-app-for-that/) recently and have found it a real game changer for transit and cycling routes. It has a great way of looking beyond distance/ travel time and surfacing how much of a route is on protected bike lanes or safer roads.

@lexfri I tried subscribing to Lexicogs via RSS but found it was the Conlextions feed. Is that intentional, or might there be a feed for Lexicogs in the future?

The less fun part of the evening was cycling home and having a taxi driver try run me off the road while shouting at me. It felt like an unfortunate rite of passage, but I was fine and thankfully he fecked off before long.

Soliciting advice for how to handle those situations from any more experienced cyclists #BikeTooter

One week with my bike and I got to take part in #CriticalMassDUB with @IBIKEDublin! It was a blast, and definitely something I hope to do again.

I strongly recommend trying #criticalmass cycles wherever you may find them 🚲

I did some quick maths:

So, using round numbers, the bike can get me 50km with 20 times less electricity usage (plus some of my own energy) and comparable travel times for the journeys I’ve been using it on! I’m delighted with this thing 🚲

@marcprecipice I was thinking about the picture you had of your bike locked up from the other day. It looked like it wasn’t “fully” kitted out, as there were some clips empty etc. Do you have any photos of it mostly or totally done up? I’d be really curious what it looks like in full swing!

I’ve added another electrified mode of transport to my mix! Happy to be getting around on fewer wheels more often 🚲
