Weird day somehow. Today is official launch of the #RTX5090, and there is an official #Nvidia partner store here in Munich, where I also got my 4090 from on release day, but this time there is absolutely zero information available. No models, no prices, not even a statement if they start to sell it today, let alone at which time. O_o

So I played around with #DeepSeekR1 yesterday, and the „chain of thought“ is seriously impressive. That thing is genuinely better at maths than I am (which isn't that hard, admittedly).

The small distilled versions most ppl are using seem to have severely limited world knowledge, but I downloaded a couple of bigger ones that barely fit into my 4090's VRAM, and those are great.

Still don't know whether any of this is really useful, but as a fun novelty it's top notch.

I know, #generativeAI is evil, but I'm following a Facebook group called "AI Brutalism", and it is absolutely glorious. A fantastic collection of imaginary places, made even better by the uncanny and dream-like aesthetics so typical for genAI. It's like watching Ghost of the Shell on acid (been there, done that), and I love it.

Why is #Python so slooooow? 😩 Why having an interpreter when starting it takes longer than compiling a whole Go project? Why does it take 10 bloody seconds to run one simple unit test with the debugger attached? When I do the same in #PHP, it takes way less than a second, and feels instant enough to not be annoying. 😑

Successfully migrated my #Mastodon instance back to the VM without terribly slow IO after having it updated to the most recent FreeBSD version. Went surprisingly smooth this time and performance seems finally to be fine again. \o/

Yesterday I've spent approximately half of the workday waiting for the #Python interpreter to start up in debug mode. Why is it so slooooow? It's the worst debug experience... oh, wait. There is also everything JS. This is the worst debug experience.

Oh, allwissende Müllhalde sagt, dass der statische Dynamikumfang des Auges nur ca. 6.5 f-Stops sind. Das ist gar nicht so viel. Der Effekt kommt stattdessen durch rapides Nachstellen der Blende zustande.

Beim Versuch, ein Foto von diesem Mond zu machen, fällt einem erst wieder auf, was 1) Menschen für verdsmmt gute Night Vision haben, und 2) was für einen irren Dynamikumfand die Augen haben. Wie viele f-Stops werden das sein?

Debugging #asyncio stuff in #Python is a pain in the arse. >_< Is there really no way to find out where the coroutine in which my exception is raised has been called? The stack trace is completely useless.

Edit: Turns out the error happened in a completely different place than I’d expected, which explains the trace. 🤦‍♂️ Blindly debugging projects without remotely understanding how they work rocks. 😬

Okaaaaay... So my #Mastodon instance committed suicide, again. #Ivory was still kinda working (with error message while scrolling), but the website threw an Internal Server Error. After restarting mastodon_web, it wasn't reachable at all (Bad Gateway). After restarting the whole FreeBSD jail, it just works again. O_o Absolutely no idea what the issue was, and the logs folder is empty.
