“I’m not saying that this was a Russian operation. I’m saying that, based on the public record, the FBI did scandalously little to even test whether it could be; there’s no evidence they took the steps they would have needed to rule it out and plenty of reason to believe they did not. The FBI never even indexed the laptop, not over the course of 4 years of reliance on it. They’re in no position to make claims about its provenance.”

“Trump’s EO on birthright citizenship is an early test of the fed judiciary, and of the extent to which R-appointed judges are willing to amend the Constitution from the bench just to give Trump what he wants. They have done so at least twice before, the 1st time by writing the 14A’s ban on insurrectionists running for office out of the Const, and the 2nd time by seeking to protect him from prosecution by inventing an imperial presidential immunity out of whole cloth.”

“This week, the GOP chair finally admitted, publicly, what was clear to all of us who know that Ohioans want to end gerrymandering: the entire goal was simply to confuse voters from voting the way they actually intended to vote.

It was to thwart the will of the voters…

The ballot language itself was written to sow confusion. Instructing voters that voting “Yes” would create gerrymandering. Leaving the impression that “No” would stop gerrymandering.”

"if Donald Trump was the defendant here, the US Supreme Court was the aider and abettor. That execrable immunity decision, utterly unfounded in American law, and the unconscionable half-year plus of US foot-dragging that the Supreme Court engaged in prevented a trial.

That trial was, after all, set for March 4, 2024. And if the Supreme Court had not gone completely off the rails, that case could have proceeded.”

“The apparent veteran suicide in Las Vegas is a reminder that allowing two clueless billionaires to decide what benefits military veterans should receive is madness.

As a weary nation deals with domestic terror and a crisis in mental health for veterans who served their country honorably, the ridiculous rhetoric emanating from Trump's techbros is callous and insulting.”

“The United States spends more on “healthcare” than any other country in the world: about 17% of GDP.

Switzerland, Germany, France, Sweden and Japan all average around 11%, and Canada, Denmark, Belgium, Austria, Norway, Netherlands, United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia all come in between 9.3% and 10.5%.

Health insurance premiums right now make up about 22% of all taxable payroll, whereas Medicare For All would run an estimated 10%.”

“It's funny to say "President Musk," but that's not quite right: we face a situation in which the officeholder has less power than than the moneybag. In another post I called this "Trumpomuskovia." But perhaps Musk’s name should really come first, before Trump’s. Mu…mp…

And so "Mump." The Mump Regime.”

“Remember that time—8 weeks ago—when Jeff Bezos defended not endorsing a presidential candidate because “most people believe the media is biased” and that not endorsing a candidate would boost the WaPost’s credibility?

So, what are we supposed to think 8 weeks later when Bezos makes a voluntary contribution of $2M to Trump? I think that the owner of the WaPost is squandering what little credibility is hiding in the nooks and crannies at WaPo’s headquarters in D.C.”

“The majority’s opinion has been rightly subjected to ridicule. If there was an Olympics for sophistry, the majority’s opinion would certainly have taken the gold. The majority blatantly orchestrated the desired result by usurping the jury’s traditional role as the determiner of fact. This is exactly the type of activism self-described conservative justices purport to disdain,” Donnelly wrote.”

“All this paves the way for larger deceptions later. Bank on it: The moment Trump takes office, the lower apprehension numbers will magically become real metrics. Fox News will start trumpeting them, and Trump will start claiming the border has achieved pacification due to his strength. Indeed, Trump very well may credit his current threat of tariffs with “forcing” Mexico to make the lower numbers of border crossings a reality.”

“As legal commentator Asha Rangappa noted: “People criticizing the Hunter Biden pardon need to recognize: For the 1st time, the FBI and Justice Department could literally fabricate evidence, or collaborate with a foreign government to ‘find’ evidence of a ‘crime,’ with zero accountability. That’s why the pardon goes back to 2014.””

“the Washington Post showed before the election that voters overwhelmingly preferred Harris’s policies to Trump’s if they didn’t know which candidate proposed them. An Ipsos/Reuters poll from Oct showed that voters who were misinformed about immigration, crime, and the economy tended to vote Republican, while those who knew the facts preferred Democrats..As Angelo Carusone of Media Matters put it:“We have a country that is pickled in right-wing misinformation and rage.”

“As Marc Elias of Democracy Docket has noted, we must distinguish between the ability of Republicans to file frivolous lawsuits and the likelihood of success of those lawsuits..

Sadly, news media report new lawsuits with ominous overtones suggesting chaos but rarely note the dismissal of those same lawsuits..The fact that fraud is vanishingly rare means that virtually all of those lawsuits will be disposed of quickly.”

“Her recent proposal to enable Medicare to pay for home health aides has flown largely under the radar, although it would be a major benefit to many Americans. She proposes to pay for that benefit with additional savings from drug price negotiations. By keeping seniors in their homes longer, it would save families from having to meet the high cost of residential care.  “

“Of course, I think of this veteran as we hear another round of appalling comments about veterans from Trump.

The comments Trump made the other day, and has made before, show that just under HIS surface is a shocking disrespect for those who serve our country. While our friend can’t help but relive his service as he recovers in a hospital bed, Trump’s lack of appreciation and respect runs so deep, he can’t help but having it constantly spill out. Privately. Publicly.”
