Wow! Social media engagement is short-lived.
I covered, photographically, our town's Christmas Lights switch-on festivities. It was a busy day with me rolling-up around 10:00 AM to capture stall setups and finishing at 5:30 PM after the switch-on and final stage act.
Returning home, somewhat tired after all that time on my feet, I transferred the images to my computer and did a preliminary assessment before relaxing for the rest of the day.
I pushed the processed images to facebook mid-morning on a Monday and throughout the day I got a few likes from the town's retirees and at-home parents. A flurry of likes followed after folks had returned from work and engaged in their evening surfing session. The day after? Nothing.
It really looks like you've got to rush stuff out the same day otherwise you can expect people's attention to have moved on elsewhere. Event photography, for general consumption, is something you need to do purely for self-satisfaction.

Ooh. retro music in Bedford 2025.
The Human League, Thompson Twins, Tom Bailey and Blancmange. I'll put that on the calendar.

This is concerning.
I'm on blood pressure reduction medication and just recently had a routine blood test to check on its efficacy.
I just received a SMS message from my surgery stating that I could benefit from medication to reduce my cholesterol level. I presume they mean statins.
The SMS asked if I want to go ahead with this medication addition or, if I have questions, I should make an appointment with the pharmacist to discuss things.
I'm sorry but I don't want to put decision making on whether I start using a new medication onto a pharmacist. That is the role of a doctor.

@dick_turpin The laptop model is an Asus VivoBook 14 (S413-EA).
Attached is a photograph of the battery and a listing at batterybuy.co.uk. From what I can see, the battery is Style A and the model number and capacity/voltage details confirm this.

Unbelievable: I've been trying to book a blood test appointment through my local Doctor's surgery.
The request was delivered by SMS while I was out of the country so I wasn't able to action it. By the time I returned home the SMS had expired. I contacted the surgery and asked they send me another SMS to request an appointement. What I got was a SMS engaging me in some sort of ongoing conversation.
I finally got a SMS requesting me to collect a blood test appointment form from the surgery. Prior to this I attempted to book an appointment using an online booking service (Sangix) but there's no appointments available upto 25/11/2024.
So, I had a look at the waiting list feature. To me, a waiting list is a list you can put yourself on and receive a booking on a first-come-first-served basis. No, the waiting list only allows you to book time slots within the booking availability period i.e. upto 25/11/2024. So, it's effectively a chance to grap a canellation, presumably with lots of others.
I was armed with this information before collecting the form at the surgery and I expressed my disappointment at the state-of-affairs. The receptionist suggested that if I'm really struggling to get an appointment they could maybe offer something at a hospital some 30 miles away.
When I asked how we'd got into such a state the receptionist responded "well, there's not many surgeries which offer blood tests these days!". Incredible. I had to respond "A blood test is the underpinning of modern diagnostic medicine and surgeries don't offer them!".
To say the NHS has problems is an understatement and I don't think the government throwing money at newer technology is going to solve this one.

Oh batteries. It looks like my 3 year-old laptop is in need of a new battery. It charges to 100% quite rapidly but is exhaused within a couple of hours. I need to take the cover off to determine which one of two types is the correct replacement.

The SPACEX Flight Test 5 Booster Catch was impressive. They must be elated having planned for failure but then succeeded. Are they asking the question "Were we lucky and can we do it again?".

@dick_turpin I recall you posting about a Starlink installation. Was that a personal one?
My contract with Virginmedia ends in 04/2025 and I'm looking for alternatives. Their performance has been piss-poor lately and after 24 years with NTL/Virginmedia it's time for a change.

I installed the GIMP 2.99.18 flatpak in anticipation of 3.0-RC1 arriving in the near future.
All seems good except the Resynthesizer plugin which, while available, doesn't seem to work. I use the Heal Selection tool provided by that plugin quite often.
The G'MIC Qt plugin does appear to work and I understand that an equivalent effect can be achieved with it. I'll have to do some research on it.
