It has been 0 days since I struggled to get a Java WebStart app working on a modern OS.
But here we are with ASDM running on Debian with Oracle JRE 8. (No, it won't run with OpenJDK.) I've had to disable a fair amount of security to get this running, because the best security an ASA5505 can do is TLS1.0 and SHA1.
Buy old ASAs, I thought. They'll be good for training, I thought.
In future I'm just going to buy old PCs with quad NICs and stick OPNsense on them. Or old EdgeRouters with OpenWrt.

Honestly, I'd quite like to go back to working on Psion stuff soon...

Well, as I've hit a dead-end with the firmware, I'm going to move on to IPsec VPN shenanigans. OpenWrt on a BT Hub 5a and Cisco ASA 5505.
And before anyone says anything, this is for training people, not prod. One of these devices is not safe to be used on the internet anymore, and it's not the BT Hub.

HPE/Aruba making me jump through hoops to download firmware for low-end switches (OfficeConnect 1820) is NOT cool.
I'm not an organisation. I'm an individual who just wants some bloody firmware!

Has anyone got any tips on converting #TASM and #MASM code to a more modern assembler like #NASM? Even just between TASM and MASM would be helpful.
I've got a few old bits of #Psion 8086 assembly that I'd like to use with NASM. My aim is to remove as many proprietary tools as possible.
I guess I'm looking for some sort of Rosetta stone for 8086 Small Memory Model assembly.
Books, web pages and video suggestions welcome.

[#]InternetArchive has been invaluable for me while doing #Psion research over the past 6 years.
Long-dead personal websites with copies of old software and source code were retrieved from the Wayback Machine. Old manuals and software were easy to access from the main site. Invaluable information that would otherwise have been lost.

The DDoS attack on #InternetArchive seems to have ended, so take the opportunity to change your password as soon as possible.
But be prepared to have to change it again... Remember, IA haven't yet officially announced that the security hole has been closed.

Got a new toy! A #Psion HC120 corporate/industrial handheld. The HC range was the precursor to the Workabout range.
