We used to have to “kiss in the shadows,” and for the next four years, we may have to do so again, but I also do believe that LOVE and TRUTH will always win! Notice that “we kiss in the shadows” implies that we continue to kiss no matter what, but we might need to do so more carefully depending on who is watching.

In one of his more meandering Executive Orders, Trump on January 29th made it national policy that teachers must not only refuse to use a student’s preferred name and pronouns, but must rat out their trans students to parents.

Queer elders have the hard-earned skills and knowledge to survive, as queer people, in a world more hostile than many young queer people can imagine, myself very included. Queer youth have the narrative and rhetorical skills to change hearts and minds.

Of course, I didn't mention the demon stuff. When Mom asked me about the activities and stuff that Todd and I did together, I had to make up a few things. When we murdered that demon in the park, for example, I sort of made it seem like we were playing Frisbee.

The drive back was tense. Quiet. Weirdly awkward.

Us and Them are much more complex than they appear at first glance. Like the vast majority in the United States, I’m a mixture of both. I’m an Us because I’m white, cis, straight and I’ve never had to worry about food, clothing, shelter or medical care. I’m a Them because I’m a woman and a Jew.
