Q for #Deaf and #HardOfHearing folks who cannot listen to music or podcasts:
What are your methods for helping you to fall asleep? Are there other senses or activities you engage in order to prevent your mind from being busy?

Local politics is not glamorous. It is not shiny. It's often thankless.
I feel this, too, to be clear. It's hard for me to imagine running for local office, for example. It feels like all the bad of being a politician but less power.. but is that even true? I feel like there's something to explore and unpack about the memes of power and what is worth doing.
Because the local IS powerful.

Thinking about the democratic party's seeming fascination with the "charismatic megafauna" of political races, while the republican party is packing local school boards with people who don't want trans people to be allowed around kids.

I feel like the labor market is in for a real spin this year :/
Who knows if it's coordinated, but it feels like a massive turn toward devaluing labor.

Open weight models like #DeepSeek are POWERFUL for expanding access to AI capabilities, but access is not enough!
We need #PublicAI: an approach that prioritizes public goals with accountability and sustainably maintains public goods in addition to providing access.

It is DONE! One year ago, I set out to pull together my reflections and answers to the question βhow do I get into #AI #policy?β This week, I finished the final installment.
The series has five parts:
π§ Mindset
ποΈ Be perceived
π¬ Be the reply guy you want to see in the world
β³ Donβt wait to do the work
π Pay it forward (donβt skip this!)
Iβm so grateful to everyone who came on this journey with me. Thank you. π #IHopeWeAllMakeIt

Recently came back to this old essay I wrote (I needed a writing sample for a job application and didnβt have one, so I just wrote an essay, lol) and while the #AI research landscape has DEFINITELY changed a lot over the last 5-6 years, I think this still pretty accurately represents my feelings on it all.

Any #insurance wonks out here? I'm wondering why insurance companies work with public adjusters. Is it a legal requirement? It seems like they wouldn't want to.

Any #HistoryOfTechnology folks out there?
Iβm trying to learn more about the history of electrification (aka the widespread adoption of electricity or construction of infrastructure outside of, like, funky inventors-in-labs types of things).
In my mind, the early demonstrations of public usefulness were for electric lighting, but I am learning that the telegraph may have even earlier driven infrastructure investments.
Do you know more? Or have recommendations on where to look? Iβd love to learn!

Logging out of social media I donβt want to spend much time on has been such an effective practice! I also like browser extensions like #LeechBlock which can introduce a delay so I still can visit sites if I need them for work, but serve as a moment of βdo I really want this?β for myself.

Asking for a friend:
Whatβs a good way for a regular person to contribute to archival efforts? I know when I was living in SF, the @internetarchive had #volunteer slots for scanning media, but any ideas that would be good for someone in Florida or Texas?
Thanks!! π

Can you #help me?
I feel like I've seen a post a few times #OnHere that's a link to a blogpost or site that's a manifesto on why you should have a personal site/blog outside of social media.
But I can't remember what it was called or the URL!!
UPDATE: incredibly, @stefan identified the one I was thinking of, almost immediately! https://nora.zone/manifesto.html
Thank you thank you (and thanks @nora for writing it)
