I don’t think it’s possible to have a government that genuinely works for the masses of people if running for president will run you $1 billion. These elaborately staged campaigns have of course become an industry. When will it be time to talk about the scale of our institutions?

• When predators appear, animals will try to make themselves appear larger. Strength in numbers has always been our strongest defense—we have the numbers, so we have the power. “But the proles, if only they could somehow become conscious of their own strength, would have no need to conspire. They needed only to rise up and shake themselves like a horse shaking off flies. If they chose they could blow the Party to pieces tomorrow morning. Surely sooner or later it must occur to them to do it. And yet—!”
• Solidarity transforms us into an undeniable force. The forces of fear and hatred should understand that they do not have free rein. No president or political party has a right to bully, threaten or attack any group of people.
• Because of this result, showing our numbers is hugely important. Public presence is a warning that shifts the balance of power—by taking to the streets, we make opposition manifest, reminding the ruling class that many are prepared to protect their family, friends, neighbors, and total strangers. We protect us.

“In many ways, the Democrats are responsible for Donald Trump’s return to power. Over the past four years, the Democrats have beefed up the institutions through which the fascists will enact their policies, normalized violence against the people that the fascists intend to target, turned over the communications platforms via which people share information, and discouraged people from the kind of tactics one needs to fight against a fascist regime is complicity.”

“But what could she really say? She couldn’t honestly say she’d run a vigorous campaign that championed the poor, the downtrodden, and the voiceless or that she’d fought for peace, and human dignity, and to fix an unraveling climate.”

Well, Kamala Harris is right about one thing: “It’s time to organize and mobilize.” But we need to organize and mobilize against the political and economic system she represents. The entire state-corporate social and cultural apparatus got behind her.

It’s so gross the way some people talk about immigrants. I personally think immigrants are some of the most interesting people—always have really interesting life stories, always work like hell, always good vibes. #dontdeportanyone

In a short editorial published in 1985, Nigel Thrift examined “three key ideas” underpinning “the idea of a ‘decentralist socialism.’” The first imperative of the idea is vigilance against the concentrated power of the centralized state, which acts as an impediment to genuine democracy and socialism.

These people reacting to folks posting their Jill Stein votes with, “I will never understand people like you.” They really don’t understand, and the reason for that is simple: Democrats and their voting base are much, much closer to Republicans (Trump/MAGA included) in worldview and general ideological orientation than they are to the left.
They accept capitalism and its increasingly absurd and pulverizing inequalities; they accept the ideologies underpinning empire, and they do believe that the U.S. should run the world; they accept the policing and prison systems, and thus white supremacy and prison slavery; they accept the military-industrial complex and the control of criminal war profiteers over U.S. foreign policy; they accept “escalate to deescalate” and brinksmanship on nuclear war; they accept highly mediated representation and electoralism instead of real political participation and democracy; they accept stealing labor and resources from the global South; they accept trashing the land, water, and air and doubling down on fossil fuels; they accept the censorship, harassment, and even murder of political dissidents and whistleblowers.
One could go on forever (please add anything you think of below!). Republicans and Democrats represent slight variations on a fundamentally authoritarian and exploitative worldview. Harris voters really can’t understand people on the left—they have very different values and beliefs.

Not interested in your politician. No, thank you—could I be removed from the list? It’s the morphological character of the institutions I’m interested, not the political party of the tool du jour. Never put my name with these people.
