So Facebook, the company that has claimed to "have social in their DNA", has rolled out a feature (new to me at least, possible EU specific) where I got the option to choose between targeted and not so targeted ads.

Sure thing, they are of course going to be nice about whatever I choose, right?

Well, as punishment for not forking over as much data as possible, I am now getting ad breaks, where it will pause for a few seconds, if I scroll my timeline, every page of content or so 🤬

Seems the Republicans have quite a task on their hand, finding financing for Trumps plans.

"most of the major policies Mr. Trump wants included in the legislation are extremely expensive. Extending the tax cuts he signed into law in 2017 alone is expected to cost $5 trillion."

A blanket tarif of 10% on all goods going in and out of the US would (per the article) only yield $2 trillion.

[#]askatp I have gotten a new computer (Mac mini) and will need to configure timemachine disks for backup. I have become uncertain what would be the recommended choices for encryption, as this can be done on both filesystem and timemachine level.

So what do you guys do, encrypt twice (both disk and timemachine), once (disk or timemachine) or not?

I just want to be be both security minded and practical, there are no dark secrets expected to be hoovered up by the backups.

@siracusa one of the local Apple Premium Partners is having something of a sale, these are demo models but still, could it be a sign of something coming?

@MonaApp I often find that when I click on a user in the Mona app (one fine example would be @MonaApp), I see only the bio but neither any posts nor replies. If go to the mastodon web interface, I see lots of posts. Occasionally, I see something but the majority of the time, I do not.

Is this a known issue? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Anybody still suffering from any illusions of how OpenAI prioritises between money and safety, should take a look at how they have now completed the pivot wrt military applications from "models cannot be used for models for weapons development, military or warfare” to recently announcing that its technology will be deployed directly on the battlefield.
