I finished my first mitt of this pair, and cast on the second mitt, yesterday. These are a surprisingly quick knit. The pater is Barn Swallow Mittens by Cheryl Toy. The yarn is fingering from my stash.

My book group meets on Zoom but this was way more fun than the book discussion.

Instagram thinks I should follow the American Vice President. I'm sure it must be because he likes to knit and posts cat pictures.

I've logged off Instagram for awhile.

Some days, you just need bright socks. Yarn is from TurtlePurl yarns in New Brunswick. 🇨🇦

I started some fingerless mitts, and the first one is nearly done. The pattern is Point Edward Mitts. The folded cuff can be flipped up over your fingers so you can get from the car to the house or the bus to school.

First finish of 2025: No surprise, socks. This pair was started just before Christmas and finished today. Weirdly, the yarn has a "misprint" in the yarn dye pattern. One sock is missing two red stripes. They look so busy I'm probably the only one to notice. Either late for Christmas 2024 or early for 2025.

With the Christmas knitting finished, I am back to cowl I started back in October. It is a choose your own adventure style pattern, as you choose how the short row waves will fit together, until you have the width you want. I just finished the third repeat. The short rows take a lot of counting, so this is not a TV project.

I am knitting this sock. As I got to the heel, I met a knot but it seemed to be in the pattern, so I cut out the knot, joined the yarn, and kept knitting. The second half of the sock seems to be a similar but different pattern. The wide red stripes are gone. I doubt that the recepient will care. So I'll just keep going.

Christmas holiday socks. I met a knot in the ball but I think the yarn is too busy to notice the shift in the pattern.

First sock, currently at the "Muppet stage".

I can't even finish my cast on. Already found two knots. So annoying. I could work with it if it were a solid, but the colours don't follow the sequence.

I was asked to do an emergency repair. A young friend's hat had an unfortunate encounter with her dog. With a little help from Mudd, I managed to make it wearable again. The biggest challenge was the lining in the hat. I didn't want to have to open it, to get at the inside of the hat. So the hat has a top knot now.

I don't just knit, I also sew. I've been sorting through my stash and and this week I sorted the sewing UFO bin. I found two mug mats, from a workshop I lead about 5 years ago. The tops were pieced, the batting and backs were cut to size, but nothing else was done. So yesterday, I spent an hour finishing one of them to add to a gift bag for a friend. I machine tied it using one of the seldom used stitches on my machine.

I am terribly disappointed that the Pantone Color of the Year for 2025 is beige. You can call it Mocha Mousse if you like, but it looks like beige to me. I hope that doesn't represent what kind of a year we are going to get.

I finished two mitts in the past week, although they aren't a pair. I finished an alpaca inner mitt for a pair of adult large double mitts, and a toddler mitt. The mates are on the list for this week.

I finished a set of "double mitts" for my Christmas box. I figured out the pattern using Kate Atherley's book "Knit Mitts" . The outer mitts are Knit Picks Chroma Twist Worsted and the inner mitt is Knit Picks Andean Treasure DK. They feel lovely and will hopefully keep hands warm in a more northerly area of Canada.

Decided it was a good day for some mindful knitting by the fire. I have set aside the mittens to work on my cowl. Pattern is called Shocktopus. The pattern is more a list of suggestions than an actual pattern, so the knitter needs to fill in the gap in the instructions. I think I have figured it out correctly. Good exercise for my brain. Short rows and produce interesting results. Yarn is from my stash.

Time to pull out my Halloween quilting effort. I found the cat fabric and bought a yard many years ago, because it was cute. This was what it became: a wall hanger/table runner. I still think the cats are cute, the rest of the fabric was bits from my stash.
