Biggest fears for the writing world?
Just about the same as my fears for the 'real' world. AI is eating everything, politics are heading enthusiastically into fascism and world harm, people seem to be getting less kind and more petty, and the weather is going nuts.
You know.
Fucking chaos.

Uh. I choose a plot, I think up characters I like, I make outlines and world backgrounds, then I sit down and type a lot.
I'm not sure I know anyone who doesn't know what a writer does.

Okay, it's been more chaotic than I expected, so I'm only now getting to my actual task for the day, which is recording this week's 1.5 hour chapter of the ongoing long fic.
I expect to be done with the recording (assuming I maintain one chapter/week) in early March and to have posted all of it (forty fucking hours of audio, all my voice, go me) by mid May. If I hurry the editing, I'll post the finished chapters faster.
And then... what'll I record on Wednesdays? My own novels, I guess.

I will not and do not hide my politics for anyone.
I am a foaming at the mouth liberal. I'm super left-wing here in the US, but probably more of a moderate in European political terms.

I am an extreme plotter. I make huge, detailed outlines and then, when the writing starts, I can finish a novel in less than a month.
I do lots of worldbuilding, I make conlangs, I draw maps, I study the places my stories happen in... all before the actual writing begins.
Then I get ~ 2400 words/hour.

Favorite Trope?
Found family. I love it in just about every version and iteration, including real life.
Especially in real life, actually.
(I also like long-term pining, second chance romance, Only One Bed, crossed communication (when well done, this is exquisite), identity porn, and grumpy/sunshine.)

This one is actually related to a novel I'll be publishing this year. Queer romance: unexpected baby, long-term pining, "fake" marriage (they're really married, but the stated goal is so they can keep the baby) (really, they're in love).

I have successfully FULLY REMOVED ONEDRIVE FROM MY LAPTOP!!
I'll be doing the same thing to my two upstairs computers tomorrow morning.

I #AmReading (finally?) Fourth Wing and... it's fun. It's predictable, it's tropey, it's absolutely not Great Writing, but overall it's fun and easy to read, which is something I've missed. No one (so far, I'm about 3/4 of the way through) is impossibly stupid, I like that sex is accepted and unstigmatised (including hinted queer acceptance). The dragons are fun.
I know what The Big Twist is (I read spoilers, but also it's obvious), and I'm looking forward to the characters learning it.

I do use non-English languages, and whether I italicise them depends on how/where I use them.
In my current PWF novels, I use a conlang (as the "magic" language) and, to my dismay, I can't remember if I italicise it or not.

The side characters do just pop into existence as I write, though.
They're people the MCs meet in passing - baristas, people in meetings, etc. Then, suddenly, they're Important.

I absolutely have backstories for my side characters. All I have to do to develop that backstory is pay more than a half-second of attention to a character and hey-presto, a backstory presents itself.
Sometimes, this means the side character moves forward into supporting or continuing character roles.
Writing is fun, and this is how my stories never end up being novellae; they just keep growing.

I have used 'dream sequences', but it's less like 'fake things that happened, but psych!!! It Was All A Dream' and more like, "weird ass dream that connects/shows things the character hasn't put together yet and is disturbing/distressing when they wake up".
Does that count? I'm going to continue to do it, so...
