This chart was recently shared on LinkedIn by Arlene Dickinson. She admits it is not exhaustive but it's a start.

Just a reminder to use the Made In Canada website as a resource when shopping. Look for the labels "Made In Canada" (good) or "Product of Canada" (much better).

Good Morning #Canada

The fake holiday calendar is reporting that today is Doggy Date Night. Therefore, it's appropriate to provide some recent statistics on pets in Canadian households where over half of us own a cat or a dog. Nothing wrong with cats, which are slightly more popular, but dogs are the loyal companions that we don't deserve. Give them a few extra treats today and let them nap on the furniture.

Just spent 20 minutes with the lights off watching 3 deer munch on evergreen shrubs in our front yard. We didn't want to spook them with lights in the windows. This group seems to visit once or twice a week , around 9pm. Next time we see them, I'm going to try the night mode on my phone to see if I can take a decent photo.

I don't put much faith in prognosticating rodents, but so far, Wiarton Willie is my favourite.

Good Morning #Canada

With a trade war officially announced between Canada and the USA, it's appropriate to review some facts about our #Economy. We rank 9th in the world in nominal GDP, and Canada is one of the world's largest trading nations, with a highly globalized economy. Currently, that trade is mostly with the USA, but we are large enough to attract trade from other, more friendly nations.

Cassie is vacationing with her cousins, two black cats named Sam and Soot, at our youngest daughter's apartment. Here she is defending her small patch of sun with a fearsome blep.

Good Morning #Canada

Two decades ago, the world seemed to be a more progressive place. On this day in 2005, Canada introduced the Civil Marriage Act, making Canada the third country to sanction same-sex marriage. It would become law on July 20th of that same year. Today, we have a mushroom-dicked president to the south and an opposition leader nicknamed #PeePee in our country who are both trying to return us to the 1950s.

I'm listening to Ford's election press conference this AM (trying to keep my breakfast down). He appears to be betting everything on the big bad Trump boogeyman and positioning himself as the leader who can defend us. The guy who has failed at "hallway healthcare" and eroded our health service, who can't deliver a public transit system anywhere in the province, who missed every housing target he set, who was snowmobiling during the freedom convoy crisis. This is who we should trust?

What a difference a day makes.

Yesterday, I took a photo from a bridge crossing the swimming pool on our way to breakfast. Sunny, partly cloudy, and 27°C.

Today, I took a photo from our front porch while waiting for my coffee to brew. Grey, cloudy, snow everywhere, and minus 8°C.

Another coffee, then it's time to shovel.

Good Morning #Canada

On January 30, 1969, the ISIS 1 satellite was launched into space to study the ionosphere and the aurora borealis. The satellite, unfortunately named in hindsight, was a joint project between the United States and Canada. ISIS 2 was launched in 1971, and both were designed and built in Canada. They led to the discovery of the ionosphere's physical processes and helped scientists understand the aurora borealis.

This might be a parody post, but I suspect not. A tech bro complaining that his $18,400 USD per month take-home pay doesn't allow him to live comfortably in San Francisco.

I think the most negative aspect of the puzzle boom during COVID is the now impossible task of trying to sell your puzzles in the used market. Everyone, like us, has dozens of puzzles stockpiled in their homes, and the resale value is basically free.

Good Morning #Canada

And Happy National Puzzle Day to those who still participate. During COVID, puzzle sales surged 80% year over year, and putting pieces together was a popular pastime during lockdowns. Sales have declined since then, but the Canadian market was still estimated to be worth $60M in 2024, or about $1.50 per person spent on boxes of landscape or animal pieces. And if you have cats, there will always be missing pieces.

[#]#HappyBirthday to Paul Garnet Henderson, born OTD IN 1943 in Kincardine, ON. Henderson had a distinguished NHL career, but he is best known for scoring the winning goal against the Soviet Union in game eight of the 1972 Summit Series. He's also the only person I fanboyed over when I shook his hand after a speech he gave to our company in the mid-80s. I flash-backed to where I was went that goal was scored.

Good Morning #Canada

Today we celebrate a little known Canadian inventor who created "The Steam Pleasure Palace". Almost 3 decades before Henry Ford, Quebecer Henry Seth Taylor built Canada's first self-propelled car in the 1860s. Nicknamed The Steam Pleasure Palace, the steam powered car had a single seat and could reach speeds of up to 24 kilometers per hour.

Apparently, it's still minus OMG Celsius back home in #Caledon, with light snow forecasted for the next few days. I'm feeling guilty about being on a beach with sunny skies and 28°C, and watching pelicans fishing from the comfort of my lounge chair.

Sorry.... not sorry.
