Good morning and TZAG, friends.

I am still struggling this morning. My smart ring reports I slept well last night, sure doesn't feel like it. To be fair, feels more like emotional or mental exhaustion. Which tracks given the sheer number of critical conversations I've had in the past two weeks. Almost daily, including #today. I have a solid half day of back to back meetings ahead including two more crucial discussions.

Another exhausting day #today. I am still hopeful about this big project but it would be easier if a few others could help putting that optimistic vibe out there. I am starting to feel like a sort of reverse Cassandra and it is wearing on me a bit.

In better news, all my remaining meetings went well and I finished preparing for my update to leadership tomorrow including a live demo of everything I've built so far.

Good morning and TZAG, friends.

I am a bit groggy this morning. A combination of a thorough sleep and needing to get my day started a little earlier than usual #today.

I have a few additional $dayjob meetings on my agenda, the first right at the very start of my day. Not kind but I will persist and made up for a little by an early end to my work day to pick up our CSA share and hang out for a couple of pints. Our pick up location is also my favorite local taproom.

I modeled some possible responses to the matter at hand directly. I saw others recognize what I was doing and approve. I think I turned a mind away from parroting unhelpfully vague sentiments and towards kindly interrogating to learn more.

I felt I was leaning towards disengaging from this particular frustration so I am glad I persisted. I think I have created an opening with this person to repeat which I think will be needed to fully turn their mind.

I managed to use some skill in real-time #today, in a conversation my old mind would have only met with reactive anger and frustration.

Instead of frustration, I asked questions and sought to understand. I learned some helpful things and maybe convinced others to lead with curiosity more, through my example.

I woke with some anxiety belly #today. My morning sit helped but still feeling some feelings now that my morning reading is done and my mug of tea is empty.

Last week was a lot to process at $dayjob, many months of this project remain ahead. Current events likewise will take years to unfold one way or another.

I think I have the strength needed, now contemplating how to sustain it.

I am feeling better than expected after a poor night's sleep. Might be unconscious worry about current events #today though I didn't notice any anxiety belly during my morning sit. I will likely do as many friends are, minimize my exposure today to said events anyway.

Otherwise I plan to enjoy working on projects today. Queue for the media server is humming and I looked over the instructions for the VESA mount for the new set.

Back around to weekly chores and hoping groceries aren't too hectic with more snow arriving this afternoon. The temperature has been above freezing so hoping for little accumulation and/or a quick melt.

[#]today or tomorrow I do want to make progress on getting the new, larger TV set up. I ordered an upgraded FireTV for it with an ethernet adapter since the router and NAS are close enough. Should support the best possible connection for the new, large display.

I am grateful my weekend has started #today. I am relaxing with our new media server, uploading our latest acquisitions and fixing up metadata for older series we already had.

Our new TV arrived this week so I will at least do some measuring and prep for the wall mount. The set is 65", not the biggest available but the largest we've had. Likely I will need our son's help to safely get it on the mount.

I remain emotionally exhausted though physically am in good shape #today. I am glad of a quiet day with a single, like to be agreeable meeting. I need time to recharge, the long weekend will help.

I think I will focus on a single coding task, writing a modest security middleware for a peer whose product partner has put that team in an awkward spot relative to our larger joint project.

I woke to strong numbers from my smart ring #today. Surprising given the levels of stress I also see in that data recently. Tells me my equanimity practice is helping me as intended.

Good thing since I am back around to my day of weekly check-ins. I will no doubt hear yet more fear and anxiety. I am still pondering my responses to that these past few days, trying to learn what helps others work through their feelings so that they are more confident or eager.

I remembered a favorite metaphor #today. A lot of collaborative software building comes down to stone soup in the sense that someone, often anyone, simply has to be the first willing to put something in, even if it is merely a "stone", order to get others over their hesitation.

One of the stones I've been offering, we set aside for now. The image came to mind because I said something like, "I have many other stones to offer for the soup." That got at least one knowing chuckle.

The start of yet another work week is another chance to practice using my equanimity to keep $dayjob in perspective. I have half a year of this project still ahead. Spending time enjoying personal projects like building a new media server and library over the weekend, helps reinforce my own stable identity outside of work, bolstering that helpful detachment.

My tea is done, I've read a few articles, time to get on with my day and that practice.

A stop at a big box store on the way to groceries was a bust. I thought I remembered news a while back of retailers no longer selling discs. I guess we'll turn to other sources.

We took the dogs for a walk after we out everything away then I settled in to continue working on the media library.

The resilience we're adding to by rebuilding our media library with our own family-scale infrastructure starts to follow through on what I think we'll need to persist through the next few years.

Another aspect of this project also connects with resilience and in particular community. The infrastructure I'm using, tailscale, should make it possible to extend private, secure sharing.

Part of the motivation for making this work now is concern over what we may lose access to in the next few years, for capitalistic and political reasons.

A side benefit will be changing our relationship to commercial streaming, similar to how the open social web has changed both of our relationships with commercial social media.

We may start shedding a few, keeping only one or two so we can continue to sample new stuff, choosing what we add to our own collection.

We are both impressed at how polished Jellyfin is. Adding the few titles we've re-purchased then seeing them show up with full metadata, cover images, etc. as polished as any paid streaming service is encouraging us to plan what we want to (re-)acquire next.

I've tried to put together our own media collection on our own server before but the end experience was always so rough we didn't stick to it.

I am grateful the furnace issue was an easy, cheap fix. The minimum for the visit was more than the actual parts and labor so the tech offered to do a bit more, cleaning and checking thoroughly before leaving to make the cost of him coming out more worthwhile. That means we should be all set for the rest of the season. Good timing in case we get more snow this weekend.
