If you're waiting to try #Ruby 3.4 on #Windows, the RubyInstaller is now available.

I also created my illustrated guide to installing it: https://notepad.onghu.com/2024/ruby3.4-windows-day0-install-hello_world/

Happy New Year!

The thing I hate about mobile-first #responsive #WebDesign and #UI is that most of the time, the desktop experience is not great, and only resizing the browser to a narrower portrait browser makes it bearable.

Seeking out #JRuby folk with a link to my older post abt why we like JRuby: https://notepad.onghu.com/2022/why-we-use-jruby/

It includes links to posts about installing JRuby on #Windows, packing & distributing JARs, calling #Java from #Ruby and how a different garbage collector affects performance.

If you're settling into the weekend and want to read a deep dive on how different bits of a #native #gem in #ruby work, might I recommend my "Learning by Revering Season 1 - Native Gems" posts? Currently, a 7 part series linked from:

I played with GitHub #Licensed for #oss #license and #sbom creation. Today, I only explored it for #rails apps. If you want to give it a spin, you may find my detailed notes helpful.

Anyone here using something for #oss #sbom and licensing?

As a Sunday project, I'm playing around with github/licensed but looking around if there are other solutions that people are going to?

OK, crisis averted. It was an error installing psych & it gets sorted if you do a gem update.

Thanks to the stellar work of the @rails

and @rubylangorg teams, #Rails8 "just works" when running with #RubyOnWindows.

When something is refusing to make/ build in #ruby, I think calling the log "mkmf" is not the wisest thing since the brain auto-completes a Samuel L Jackson expletive.

A piece of code that helps you extract the base name of a file, add a suffix to it and create a new file name, and then save it to the same directory. I use this to save an output file before I overwrite it.
