Hands
I could see his hands
In the back of the van
Tranquilized by blue
Reflected in black
Open palmed.
The telephone was shown
A bald cop scrolled through
Images and barked questions
While his hands moved
Among the black and blue.
Surrounded he seemed
To be trying to explain
Something about the images
That were being shown to him.
From the back of a taxi
To a police van via
His Instagram
He was busted.
And led away.

Vashti Bunyan performing Rainbow River in her wagon, 1970
In 1968, Vashti set off from London with her partner Robert in a horse and wagon towards the Isle of Skye, wishing to leave the music industry of the city behind, and join a burgeoning folk revival happening on the Scottish island.

Marianne Faithful on William S. Burroughs:
"I was a big fan of his books, and read them all when they came out. I read Naked Lunch when I was very young and thought it was telling people to go out and get high. I've just reread it, though, and realised it's the opposite. It's an anti-drug book. What is striking is that all his visions and prophecies, all the new drugs that hadn't been invented when he was writing Naked Lunch, came true. He hit the nail on the head. I last read it again a few weeks ago and the book is by no means a period piece. It's still terrifying. The last thing Naked Lunch is about is drugs - they are just a sidebar. But that is how people come to Burroughs. They think he was about that one thing, but he went much further than that. What he did in his personal life and what he is as an artist are quite different."

The Bild Lilli doll was a West German line of fashion doll launched by Greiner & Hausser GmbH on August 12, 1955 and produced until 1964. Its design was based on the comic-strip character Lilli, created by Reinhard Beuthien for the tabloid newspaper Bild. The doll was made of polystyrene, came in two sizes, and had an available wardrobe of 1950s fashion. The Lilli doll was copied, and altered to some degree, for Mattel upon the direction of that company's co-founder, Ruth Handler. Mattel acquired the rights to Bild Lilli in 1964.

The Greek government has imposed a ban on new short-term rental agreements in three bustling Athens districts starting January 1, 2025. This sweeping restriction includes Syntagma Square, Omonia Square, and Exarchia. No new Property Registry Numbers (AMAs) will be issued for these areas, effectively freezing their short-term rental markets.
These drastic measures come on the heels of concerns that short-term rentals are choking the housing market, driving up rents, and distorting local communities. By tightening the noose on short-term rentals, Greece is sending a clear message: the Wild West era of unchecked tourism is over.

The Girl on a Motorcycle (French title La Motocyclette) is a 1968 British-French erotic romantic drama film directed by Jack Cardiff, starring Alain Delon and Marianne Faithfull. Released as Naked Under Leather it was the first film to receive an X rating in the United States, and edited by Warner Brothers for an "R" rating. It was listed to compete at the 1968 Cannes Film Festival but the festival was cancelled due to the May 1968 events in France. The Girl on a Motorcycle redefined the leather jacket for motorcyclists into a catsuit that Faithfull wore in the film.

Marianne Faithfull dead at 78.
An icon of great talent who lived life on her terms, through the values of a generation that at least for a couple of years really tired to break through.

"Anarchism is founded on the observation that since few men are wise enough to rule themselves, even fewer are wise enough to rule others. Anarchism is not a romantic fable but the hardheaded realisation, based on five thousand years of experience, that we cannot entrust the management of our lives to kings, priests, politicians, generals, and county commissioners..."
Edward Abbey, American anarchist, ecologist and writer born, 29th January 1927.
His uncompromising and poetic works include: The Monkey Wrench Gang, Desert Solitaire and Hayduke. He also wrote The Brave Cowboy from which Kirk Douglas crafted a superb film adaption in Lonely Are the Brave - an anarchist western. 'Cactus Ed' wrote of a celebrity obsessed culture: "Yes, there are plenty of heroes and heroines everywhere you look. They are not famous people. They are generally obscure and modest people doing useful work, keeping their families together and taking an active part in the health of their communities, opposing what is evil (in one way or another) and defending what is good. Heroes do not want power over others."

The Sonderfahndungsliste G.B. ("Special Search List Great Britain") was a secret list of prominent British residents to be arrested, produced in 1940 by the SS as part of the preparation for the proposed invasion of Britain. After the war, the list became known as The Black Book.
There were 2,820 people listed in the Black Book. It was compiled by Walter Schellenberg, Chief of RSHA Amt VI, Ausland-SD, that made up the foreign intelligence branch of the Sicherheitsdienst (SD) - the intelligence gathering agency of the SS. The list contained the names of prominent British residents to be arrested immediately after a successful invasion.
Among those slated for arrest were Lady Astor, Noel Coward, Virginia Woolf, H. G. Wells, Paul Robeson (who had returned to live in the US in October 1939), Sidney Reilly, Heinrich Mann, Alexander Korda, Chaim Weizmann, Eduard Benes, Oskar Kokoschka, Aldous Huxley, Charles de Gaulle, Sigmund Freud (even though he had died in September 1939), the philosopher Bertrand Russell, members of exiled governments, financiers such as Bernard Baruch, and many others deemed anti-Nazi. A separate list named organizations which would have to be dismantled as well, namely the Freemasons, the Jehovah's Witnesses and even the Boy Scouts.
