If you're reeling from Trump's ongoing attacks, check out my latest piece about what trans people are up against and how we (as in, all of us, including doctors and clinicians) can resist these assaults. The piece includes commentary from Andrea Ritchie and Dean Spade.

In my latest piece, I wrote about Trump's executive orders, including his attacks on trans and undocumented people, and how we should be orienting ourselves to defy fascist violence in this moment. This piece includes commentary from Chase Strangio and Silky Shah. https://organizingmythoughts.org/a-brutal-beginning-orienting-ourselves-amid-the-shock-and-awe/

This edition of my newsletter includes mutual aid efforts to support and uplift, preparedness resources (for us all), some must-reads, and some thoughts about how we process disaster and look after each other amid disaster. (Yes, I am on a break, but this felt important.) https://organizingmythoughts.org/fire-related-mutual-aid-efforts-to-support-and-some-must-reads/

My weekly curated list of must-reads and some final thoughts for the week. (From Musk's role in the looming government shutdown to Mangione's brooding, cinematic perp walk and political reflections on "It's a Wonderful Life," I cover a lot of ground in the final thoughts section this week.) https://organizingmythoughts.org/must-reads-and-some-thoughts-on-elon-musk-as-mr-potter/

One of my favorite holiday traditions is supporting the Holiday Solidarity Toy Drive, organized by Moms United Against Violence and Incarceration. Here, I talk to organizer Holly Krig about MUAVI’s efforts to support families separated by incarceration and how you can help. (Let's buy some toys, fam.) https://organizingmythoughts.org/creating-traditions-of-care-for-the-holidays/

There's so much angst and despair radiating all around us. This is wholly understandable, but if something's giving you warmth or strength (even just a bit), be sure to uplift that as well. Help others remember that kindness, solidarity, and care are still at work in the world.

My latest is a reflection on how people have responded to the killing of a health insurance CEO. "Rather than centering Thompson’s humanity, as scolding voices have demanded, they centered their own, and the humanity and suffering of others who were harmed by the insurance industry." I also talk about Mangione as a floating signifier, which sounds weird, but trust me, I have a point. https://organizingmythoughts.org/insurance-denials-chronic-pain-and-a-nations-rage/

In our last Movement Memos episode of the year, I talk with Silky Shah about how organizers are preparing for to defend immigrant communities, and what actions we can take to prepare and respond. “It’s inherently a racial and economic justice fight,” Silky says. You can check it out wherever you get your podcasts. For a transcript and show notes (which include organizing resources), check the comments. https://truthout.org/audio/how-immigration-organizers-are-gearing-up-for-another-trump-era/

When I interviewed mutual aid volunteers in Asheville, they had one recurring plea: Don’t forget about us when the news cycle moves on. I recently caught up with one of those organizers, who shared some important updates and lessons learned. This is a good time to learn from collective survival work. https://organizingmythoughts.org/the-power-of-the-people-heals-2/
