I love being stuck in traffic in public transport while said public transport is almost empty because nobody takes it because it always gets stuck in traffic BECAUSE NOBODY TAKES IT

This was the best run, but it ended quickly because the coil blew the GFCI.
Probably due to all the primary strikes, lol

The coil got some upgrades!
Out with the burnt, dead caps and in with a new spark gap & caps!
The gap still needs some work, it's way overloaded and starts glowing after a few seconds of runtime, which causes it to prefire and diminish the output.

Lifehack:
If a community no longer sparks joy just leave it.
Spent the last six years active in a discord server and came to the realization that now you're just checking in out of habit and have more users than ever where you think "ugh, I don't really wanna read this"?
Just leave!
You don't owe anybody anything.

When you finally find that one paper that describes exactly what you're looking for but then you realize they have made a pretty big oversight and now you're unsure how much if any of their simulations you can trust 😩

I got myself another granite plate as a christmas gift, and today I finally finished the micrometer stand for it!
It came out nice and rigid, and the knobs add just the right amount of bling 😁
Yes, I know what a parallax error is, but this kind of setup can be useful, too, just because it's more universal.
Sooner or later I'll build another adapter that then keeps the dial gauge exactly vertical to the plate.

Every day I get to pick up new tools for the @FabLabMuc is a good day!
And oh boy, they sure are some nice ones this time round. Those vices make me want to get a surface grinder, and the rotary table... damn.

It's a gamma compensated neutron ionisation chamber!
Basically two chambers in one, sharing one electrode. One chamber is coated in boron to make it neutron sensitive, the other isn't and with some clever wiring of both chambers you can make sure the current on the shared electrode is just from neutrons, regardless of the gamma background!
You'll typically find these very close to a reactor core, used for measuring power.

I never understood the "feels like" temperature in weather info screens.
If -1 °C can feel like -3 °C then who says that -3 °C can't feel like -1 °C?
Who can even tell a difference between one or two degree Celsius?

Well that didn't work for shit.
So, for some context, we wanted to try and make some electrets. You melt a polymer, let it solidify under an intense electric field and it picks up that field.
First attempt was with some random HDPE which burned before melting, I can only assumed it was crosslinked.
Second attempt was a cut up LDPE bag which melted, but only glued the electrodes together upon cooling and didn't seem to retain any field at all.
More experiments to be done!
