Ich war schon damals, und heute immernoch, ziemlich verwirrt, was die Marke und Farbe von Disketten angeht. Früher dachte ich mal, DD Disketten seien in der Regel blau, HD Disketten schwarz. Aber irgendwie find ich dann immer wieder Ausnahmen und Varianten. Identische Spiele oder Programme wurden mal in der einen, mal in einer anderen Farbe veröffentlicht. Manchmal stecken in einem einzigen Diskettensatz plötzlich verschiedene Marken und Varianten von Disketten. Es ist ein Chaos! 🤬

Für ehemalige Besitzer und Fans der Highscreen Computer von Vobis hätte ich hier die passende 1992er Version von Windows 3.1 hochgeladen. Deutsche OEM Version, ohne Branding oder sonstige Gemeinheiten. Einfach ein sauberer Diskettensatz. Viel Spaß!

Tonight, I just downloaded and checked out "Alien Intruder". It's a single screen jump-and-shoot arcade platformer for DOS. Looks like it runs great on my virtual 80386 using the 86Box emulator. Also, it's free!

Die deutsche Vollversion von Microsoft Office 4.2 für Windows 3.x ist nun auch endlich im Internet Archive zu finden. 28 x 1.44MB HD-Disketten und eine gigantische würfelförmige Schachtel wurden sauber ausgelesen, gescannt und hochgeladen. Gehört in jede 90er Retro-Sammlung!

Also das war jetzt heute mit großem Abstand eine der nervigsten Disketten-Auslese-Aktionen aller Zeiten! MS-Office 4.2 auf 28 x HD-Disketten. Ich musste fast jede einzelne Diskette reinigen und die meisten davon mehrere Male in verschiedenen Laufwerken einlesen, bis ich von allen ein perfektes IMG Image speichern konnte. Hat mich locker 6 Stunden gekostet und am Ende hat das dann selbst einem verrückten Nerd wie mir keinen Spaß mehr gemacht.
Aber natürlich bin ich jetzt doch froh, dass es irgendwie geklappt hat. Irgendwann später am Tag muss ich jetzt noch alle Disketten sauber über den Scanner laufen lassen, dann lad ich sie alle nach Archive.org hoch.
Jetzt mach ich erstmal n bisschen Pause.

I've always been a huge fan of Microsoft's Flight Simulator, but somehow I never really got into playing its cousin: "Microsoft Space Simulator".
Until today! - I just received this beautiful "Space Simulator" bigbox. English and German diskettes for MS-DOS and a thick paper manual. Looks like everything's pretty much unused and in pristine condition. I need to check this out!

Back when I was a kid and ever since I got my own computer, I was equally excited about pretty much every new piece of software. Not just games, but also tools and applications. I guess, that's one of the reasons I still love to include oldschool office programs in my modern retro collection.
Anyway, here's a fresh KryoFlux disk set of Microsoft's Excel 5.0a for Windows 3.1. It's the German version from 1994.

Kurze Info: Nur um eventuelle Missverständnisse zu vermeiden:
Das Disk Image des Spiels "The Dragon's Power", das ich gestern hochgeladen hatte, wurde von mir selbst erstellt. Es entspricht - leider - nicht mehr der Originaldiskette, sondern wurde ihr nur nachempfunden. Sie selbst war leider zu stark beschädigt.

Hier die seltene Originalanleitung zum MS-DOS Klassiker "The Dragon's Power"... veröffentlicht vom bhv Verlag im Jahre 1994. Die Restauration war leider ziemlich aufwendig, aber am Ende ist's eigentlich wieder echt schön geworden.

Hier die 720KB Diskette und Schachtel des MS-DOS-Spiels "The Dragon's Power". Ein Klassiker aus dem Jahre 1994. Als ich das Spiel bekommen hatte, waren beide leider in keinem guten Lagerzustand. Ich hab getan, was ich konnte.

Setting up brand-new computers can be such a chore, even and especially as an IT guy. There are so many things to set up and configure. Windows, Firefox, Office, E-Mail, Notepad++, JDownloader, PuTTY, and many, many... many others.
And then... there comes the part when you can finally start to install the emulators. 😃

Holy cow! Digitoxin recently published loads of 1983 disk images of old ATARI arcade titles for the IBM PC. On f'in 160K booter disks! He calls it the "Atarisoft PC Floppy Disk Image Collection". Amazingly, at least some of these games still work just fine on my virtual 86Box setup!

Mal was anderes: Hab grad von den Stadtwerken meine Stromabrechnung für 2024 bekommen und so wie's ausschaut konnte meinen Jahresverbrauch um über 100KWh senken. Ich bin jetzt nur noch knapp über 800KWh. Find ich eigentlich ziemlich cool! 😃

Hab gerade mal ein paar "speziellere", deutsche Diskettenpakete nach archive.org hochgeladen.
Neben "CorelDRAW 4", "Novell DOS 7" und einer OEM Version von "MS-DOS 5" gibt es auch vollständige DMF KryoFlux Images von Microsoft's "Word 6.0 und Excel 5.0 für Windows NT".

Surprisingly, my modern USB floppy disk drive is unable to extract data from 1680K DMF disks. Luckily, I was able to read them using the #KyoFlux board. Still, a bit disappointing. Anyway...
